I just bought one of these elsewhere. It took dozens of tries just to get a spark. After finally getting it to spark I've actually been able to get a flame a few times. A person could die trying to get it to light. I've had a tabletop lighter that works with the same technology and it lights every time. It's junk.Would you recommend this to a friend? No

I got this as an add on to a larger order, figured y not for $3 right? Well I'll tell you why not... The seal around the top is a cheap o-ring that slowly leaked lighter fluid all over my bug out bag and I'm not ignorant, I know how to screw the top on and I checked to see if it was properly sealed. It looked good but about an hour after I attached it to the outside of my pack, I started smelling lighter fluid.. It had leaked the entire contents all into my pack causing slight damage and a major fire hazard. BudK did offer to replace it, not refund it but why would I want another unreliable piece of junk/fire hazardWould you recommend this to a friend? No

I really like this item, and think that the people who gave it low ervies might just not hve caught on to the technique needed to use it...it took me a bit of thought and practice to get it myself. Note that it won't necessarity work every time...this is more a survival tool than a "hey time to light my cigatette and look cool" item. But it will light in 2 or 3 strikes if you do the following: 1. Strike downward, away from the fluid reservoir (you don't want a stray spark falling in!) 2. Just as you finish your strike, flick your wrist upwards to bring the match to vertical -- this will bring the wick up INTO the spark and ignite it. If you don't do this, the spark will be trailing the wick and can't ignite the fluid. Using this approach, the match should light if not on the first strike, on the second or third. The flame is strong and very resistant to wind, making this item great as a fire starter and emergency light/heat source.Would you recommend this to a friend? Yes

Wouldn't think you need directions but trial & error approach to find best striking flame results. Found out you have to completely fill to top with fluid not just soak inner felt. O ring seal on match stick broke after few uses. Wick on match stick burned off then could not light no matter what. Had to grind down match stick tip so would be closer to remaining wick to light. As long as wick is saturated with fuel you have a chance to light flame. More of a novelty than practical.Would you recommend this to a friend? No

this actually works. there is not a flame with every strike but will work in emergency situations. great for outdoors or "roughing it." the price is good. Id rather have this laying around the house than a lighter or mathces..Would you recommend this to a friend? Yes

When I first ordered one of these, I was a little worried on quality because they are priced so cheap.....These things are Awesome! Almost every time I order I get a few of these to pass out as gifts to my friends. All of my friends are impressed with them and they are great for survival. Waterproof and pretty windproof as well. If you don't have one get one! I let one sit over a year with fluid in it and no leaks and lit right up like it's supposed too. You will want more after you get one trust me.Would you recommend this to a friend? Yes

Seems to work very well, mine lights on the 2 or 3rd strike. My only complaint is that the reservoir is plastic and the handle of the "match" is plastic that screws into the reservoir, not that big of deal. Definitely can't beat it for the price, i ordered 2 and i will be ordering more! I bought some cheap lighter fluid (2 bucks for 5 oz) and it works fine with it.Would you recommend this to a friend? Great little permanent match, although it is not stainless steel. It's plastic with a stainless steel (3 side) wrap. But it's perfect for an emergency fire starter. I keep mine with me hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, for emergencies. Great for the price.Would you recommend this to a friend? Yes
