Civil War Swords

The U.S. Civil War was fought between the years of 1861 and 1865 between the U.S. Army and the Confederate States of America Army. During the early periods of the war, many swords and large knives were used in combat. The Union Army had far better resources so they possessed tens of thousands of newly manufactured swords while the Confederate Army was forced to use older revolutionary swords or crudely made newer swords. BUDK has a large selection of civil war replica swords which are often used in reenactments.

General Robert E. Lee's Sword

Confederate General Robert E. Lee's sword was returned to Appomattox, Va., the place where he surrendered in May of 2011. One side of his sword is enscribed "Gen. Robert E. Lee CSA from a Marylander 1863;" and on the other side it says "Aide toi dieu l'aidera" which translates "Help yourself and God will help you."
