Metal helmets were worn throughout Europe during the Middle Ages, and up to the end of the 1600s by many soldiers to protect their head from swords, arrows and numerous other weapons. Initially constructed from leather, and later bronze and iron Medieval Helmets were eventually constructed from forged steel in many societies after 950A.D.
The Great HelmThe great helm, of the High Middle Ages became popular in the late twelfth century during the Crusades and remained in use until about the fourteenth century. These were used by heavy infantry and knights in much of Europe between 1220 to about 1540 AD. |
