Product Description
This three-piece Samurai sword set is complete with hand forged 1045 high carbon steel blades that are all razor sharp. The handles offer imitation ray skin with black nylon cord wrappings. Each sword includes a matching black scabbard. This sword set also includes a display stand so you can proudly display your collection!
I've had this set now since February, 2015 and wanted to thoroughly test them before I gave a proper and educated review. If you are looking for an affordable entry level set of fully functional Japanese style swords to display and/or for light to medium Tameshigiri practices, then this Black Hand Forged Samurai Sword Set is ideal. All three disassemble in the traditional manner with Mekugi without any problems, though I did replace them with new Mekugi to tighten up the fit. The Nakago (tangs), are an acceptable 3/4 the length of the Tsukas, making for a very strong assembly. The edges of the set came very sharp and surprisingly, each Nakago was engraved with the Musashi kanji. Each piece fits nicely in its saya, but did need some slight shimming to suit my personal preferences. The fit and finish of all the hardware are exceptional. The Sageo and Ito are black cotton, despite the description stating "black nylon cord wrappings", which is ideally better, in my opinion. Each piece cuts Tatami and super size pool noodles very well and the Bohi gives a nice audible feedback when swung properly. The display stand is nicely finished, solid, symmetrical and was easy to assemble. Each piece comes with a standard black protective bag without a white liner. I would highly recommend this set to novice Tameshigiri practitioners and/or to those that want a fully functional sword set for display. Lyle D. Yates-Master Instructor (retiered).

Pretty impressed
First impression of this set was very good. I haven't had much time to get out and test this set but I thought I'd give my first thoughts on them. I'll start by saying the set is very well put together and they feel great. Fair balance and I like how these are traditionally put together. All 3 pieces came decently sharp too which is nice. The sayas were not scratched or dented when received and all of the wrappings were nice and tight. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to traditional Japanese swords but from what I can tell, these are very nice quality for the price. I do know 1045 steel isn't too notch but then again, you're paying a very low price for a set of 3 but that's not to say that 1045 isn't a good steel. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend to any Japanese sword lover.

Excellent purchase with one criticism
I purchased these blades and they are fantastic. They cut well and are definitely excellent for their price. Though the tanto daggers's blade and scabbard could be just a bit more curved in my humble opinion. And I would have loved if it came with a matching tsuba (hand guard) like the katana and wakazashi. Other than that, great blades.

all 3 of these pieces are good. sharp with a nice hard spine the blades look and feel amazing. 1 warning: the base comes dissembled in the box. all you'll get is 3 wooden pieces. being new to sword collecting, that confused me, but i figured it out. using the picture of the stand from the stands category on the site i was able to figure out how it went takes only a matter of moments
so, good, sharp product, i recommend it highly

Hand Forged Set
Hey , This is a nice and strong set of swords, very sharp blades .
The black gloss scabbards that I received had a few scratches and one had a small dent ..
I will need to refinish them , seemed to have happened because sword's box was not sealed.
But for the price ... Will over look the mishap .
