I liked this machete so much, I gave it to a friend for a present. He immediately put it to use. I liked it so much, I bought another.

Great tool
A well spent $20. Machete comes with a fair edge, but it's much better if you spend a few minutes 'fine-tuning' the edge. Awesome blade. The only drawback is due to the hollow grind of the edge (for sharpness), the edge will bend and distort if cutting heavy limbs where you have to actually use several chops. Nothing a little hammer and anvil won't correct, and problem seldom occurs if you can cut through the brush with just one swing. I've used mine for almost a year to clear brush back from the roads in our hunting club. I'd realistically estimate that I've cleared at least five miles with this machete, and it's still going strong. The grip is excellent, the balance is great, and it can be used in either hand. It comes with a really nice rigid nylon sheath, which secures the blade quite well. I've easily cut one-inch branches and saplings with just one swing, and I've cut branches up to two inches with 2-3 swings. I keep it near-razor sharp, and after each use, I touch up the edge, and wipe the blade with an oil-dampened rag. This is a tool that I will highly recommend.

If you had to have only one Machete
I have had one of these for a few years now. I have taken it on hunting trips, used it to build duck blinds, stirred campfires with it, you name it. After one hunting trip all of my buddies went out and got one for themselves. For $20.00 you are not going to find a better machete, h**l you wont find a better one for $50.00. Every SHTF, WROL or Zombie Apocalypse collection need to have one Machete, and it should be the Gerber Gator!

Gerber
I bought a Gerber Gator Machete for $19.99. I bought it because it was a Gerber, and I know Gerber's reputation for quality knives. For $19.99 this Machete far exceeds my expectations--not only is it razor sharp, but the saw blade on the back is razor sharp and very functional as a rip saw.

great blade well worth price
not the sharpest blade ever but very durable it has flexibility to it but doesn't break it takes a beating ive hit mine off of rocks many times and it still had no problem. the saw blades on the back work pretty good as well but you need to stop every so often to pull the crap out from between the points the sheath is good but the belt strap is very weak and tears easy

First off, great tool! It's evenly balanced, it's durable, it's easy to sharpen (if you have a lanskey sharpener, it's easier.) Now, onto the sawback. I've never found a machete with a sawback to be much useful, and I didn't have high hopes for this one. However, this one fooled me. Sawing through a 1/2 inch branch only took 3 seconds! Sawing through a 1 inch branch only took 5 seconds. The highest inches i've sawed through is 4 1/2 inches! It took almost 30 seconds! It was epic. The key is to saw it on an incline. When I got done with it, it was still razor sharp! By far the BEST thing I've ever gotten from TrueSwords.Com.

Great buy for the money!!!
First off let me say, I love gerber knives for both quality and ease of sharpening. That being said out of the package the blade was a little roughly sharpened. With about ten minutes time on my 3 sided wet stone it took a great edge. (good enough to shave hair) The blade is sturdy but also flexes allowing you to use without fear of snapping the blade during rough use. Love the sheath and the velcro retainer. I would highly recommend for a machete and also will work for self protection if needed. Extends your reach enough to keep you out of a tight quarters fight. Holds a edge as long as you don't abuse it on rocks or other hard objects. I sharpen mine with the fine side of my stone after each use so it's always ready for whatever crosses my path. I am thinking of buying the JR model to keep in my car as it is easier to conseal under the seat. Best 20.00 you can spend for a survival tool.

Very Good Snake Killer
I recently purchased the Gerber machete in time for the Spring Exodus of Snake activity. The 18" blade is the perfect length for snake decapitation without being in striking distance. Being a new land owner, I have learned from last Summer that hunting copperheads and Coral Snakes feel free to wander into my Dog pens and around my decks. Very good tool for snake head loping and disposal!

This is a fantastic machete. The handle feels incredible. It has a very comfortable rubber grip that feels great in my hand. It feels so comfortable to swing it and the whole at the end makes a very cool sound as it cuts through the air. I use this machete for everything from trimming small limbs and plants to cutting large branches and trimming fire wood. The handle may come a little loose but can just be tightened back up with an Allen wrench. My only complaint is that the belt loop is very tight to the sheath, which makes it a little awkward to carry because the loop seems fragile compared to the weight of the sword and case but it may just need broken in more. Otherwise,it's a fantastic machete and the shipping was incredible.

Pros this machete is quality it has a good grip, saw, and sheathe. cons it did not come sharp even for a machete and it is more costly than other machetes that do the same thing. To some it up this machete is purely a yard tool no more no less if you you want to slice up zombies this tool will work like a blunt metal stick. Over all i am letdown

machete
Handle very comfortable but as soon I started to use this so call machete it started to fall apart from simply cutting limbs, pieces of the blade started to bend and tear of

Sorry Gerber
I bought this machete because i know gerbers ability to make quality knives and tools, but apparently anyone no matter how good they are can mess up. What I mean is the machete came with 5 large chips in the blade and was not very sharp. also when I did work out the chips and sharpened it with my sharpener it started to rust because I put water on the sharpening stone even though I dried the machete afterwards, so much for stainless steel. now it won't stop rusting so I have just given up and i'm sending it back.
