Razor-sharp, full-tang carbon steel bladeParacord wrapped scabbard & lanyardSolid brass hand guard & accents21" overall length
This razor-sharp, high-carbon Honshu Tanto knife will slice through almost anything and holds an edge like no other. The full-tang blade extends the entire length of the knife from tip to handle base allowing for ultra powerful slashing and chopping. It's not only great for sword collectors, but also makes one heck of a secondary weapon for soldiers in combat.

This is a nice little addition for most collections. Obviously, it's no Paul Chen Hanwei .. However, for the price .. it's a decent little blade. The blade fits too tightly into the saya .. but, just like an earlier commenter wrote, that is easily remedied. The only major flaw is that, at least mine, the blade was dull. I am not talking about it not being "razor sharp". Rather, I'm talking dull .. as in you can tightly grasp the blade and pull it .. and, NOT cut yourself .. That is something that can be remedied. However, when a blade is that dull .. it takes some time to profile it and get it sharp. Mine arrived with the brass badly tarnished. Again, that is a very easy fix that takes a few minutes. Solid little tactical .. I already have a Hanwei Forge tactical katana and wakizashi, which I believe to no longer be in production. Yet, this somewhat matches and completes the set. Since I don't gird my loins for battle, on a daily basis .. if I had it to do over again, I would have purchased the Honshu three piece set ... Are they as good as Chen's Hanwei Forge? No, but .. ALMOST and at a considerably lower price.
I would recommend this to an acquaintance ... For the money .. even with the referenced weak points .. definitely worth the money.
Out of the box: nice black cloth bag. Out of the bag: solid build, not heavy, good balance. No-nonsense hilt. Tight fit in the scabbard, but a tug frees it; a touch w/ an emory board will fix that. Some streaks of cosmoline on the blade, but a shirt tail wipe & it's gone. A tiny speck of rust on the edge. Blade a full 3/16" thick all the way out; no distal taper, but a short weapon/tool doesn't need it. Scabbard plain, handsome, again no nonsense. I don't care for the tan paracord; might dress this'n up with some red cotton tsuka ito. (Hey, Honshu: why not different colors of paracord?) Then I applied the tape measure (always a good idea with bargain cutlery) and was amused to see that the advertised OA length of 21.5" includes the scabbard; actual tanto's OA length is ~19 5/8". And another laff: the blade is 12 5/8", not the 14.5" it sez on the box. (Handle's 6.75", not 7", but meh.) Is this my money's worth plus shipping? Guess so. Is it what I've long wanted, an o-tanto or ko-wakizashi w/ a blade ~15 to 17" long? Nope.
For the price this a good buy. Classical blades are so expensive, however this Tano style blade is a great addition to any blade collection. It comes sharp out of the box, and needs little work to get it to pass the cutting edge test with rolled grass mats and 1 inch hanging rope. in passing this test, it will defiantly do what it was intended for.
