I did not think that this sword was as "flawed" as other reviewers. First I believe that the Fuchi,(collar)for the blade is not carved into the tsuka(handle).A "seppa" (washer)is placed one ahead of and one behind the cross guard, the collar is slid onto the blade ahead of the guard, then the tang of the "Katana" blade is slid through everything and tapped until everything lines up. This process took me twenty minutes and a very pleasing sword project came into being. Balance and heft are very good on this Katana when complete. I was so pleased with this sword kit I have just ordered the "Circle Dragon" kit to complement it. The instruction sheet has vague or incorrectly written instructions, caution advised when using them.(Use an actual sword already assembled as a guide).

There are many flaws with this kit: the habaki (metal collar above the tsuba) was very loose and needed some major fitting and was shipped pushed up onto the blade where it could have caused damage, the tsuba was relatively low quality and had large chips that were luckily able to be covered by the seppa (the washers), the samegawa (traditionally ray skin wrapping on the tsuka under the tsuka-ito) was a cheap plastic imitation that frays when the menuki are put in and needs to be trimmed, the saya fits the habaki in neither shape nor size, and the blade has a Chinese certification that it is "carbon steel", which while technically accurate as there is carbon in the steel, is worth less than nothing. All this being said, it is an absolutely fantastic kit for the price. The blade can take an absolutely amazing edge, though edge retention is another matter. For display purposes as well as the novelty of the limited assembly you get to perform, I would recommend this sword to anyone.

It's one thing to buy a sword off this site, but it's a different story buying the parts and putting it together yourself. It's a quite relaxing experience assembling this item if you have the time to relish the process. I recommend buying one of the sword cleaning kits here on this site. What is missing and essential is a mekugi nuki (pin hammer). Using any other hammer to push in the pins is dangerous and can split them.

Amazing Reviewed by Saintt on Jun 21, 2012   5 out of 5

I just received this a while ago. I'm thoroughly impressed. Everything fits together nicely. The blade is, in fact, carbon steel and very sharp. It has an excellent balance and weight when assembled, and is definitely not just for display. It comes with a carry bag, and the saya is very well crafted. All in all, I think it's a fantastic buy, especially considering its price. I just can't stop enjoying it. Beautiful weapon.
