Master craftsmen painstakingly handcraft each model using rosewood, mahogany, western red cedar and other beautiful exotic woods. Each Black Pearl is designed perfectly to scale using plans, pictures and drawings from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films as references, and model builders employ various time-tested construction methods to ensure every model is sturdy and immaculate. Using the "plank on frame" method, craftsmen carefully wed each strip of wood to form a smooth, seamless hull. Dark black paint and a clear coat of varnish follows, as do countless intricate details that yield a level of realism that is nothing short of spectacular. The sails are made of fine linen and the rigging is meticulously hand knotted. High above the foremast is a distinctive pirate flag with symbols of a skull and two crossed blades. Intricate portholes and a ferocious row of metal cannons line each side of the hull, and the decks are accented with wooden stairways, wooden barrels, metal lanterns, and multiple cabins, including an admiral’s quarter on the stern. A wooden rudder is attached to the stern, and a small metal anchor hangs from the bow. These are just a few of the myriad fine touches that make our Black Pearl model so extraordinarily lifelike and special.
