Product Description
This appealing sword cane is as stylish and fashionable as it is functional! This heavy-duty sword cane features a strong, partial crook handle constructed of heavy-duty nylon, with a black, aluminum shaft that is heat-treated and 5.5 mm thick. The shaft is tapered and features a thick rubber end for traction on icy sidewalks and uneven surfaces. The blade is constructed of stainless steel and it is sharp enough and strong enough to take down any attacker. This is a superior example of a sword cane!

I initially purchased a Kit Rae Axios forged sword cane. I choose it over the Cold Steel Heavy Dury because of the heavy handle and locking scabbard for situations where striking with the handle would be needed. But after just 2 weeks of use... It started falling apart. However, Budk with it's superb customer service .exchanged it without question for this one at no cost to me. I was looking at the Knight Watchman heavy duty but had read that SK5 carbine (which is around 1080 carbine steel) is not desired for sword material due to it being less flexable than lower carbine steel making it more brittle but is excellent for knife building and able to maintain a super edge. So this brought me back to the Cold Steel Heavy Duty with it's 1055 carbine blade. (1060 cabine is the optimal for swords.) As stated in other reviews the tip is made of plastic and is slick on some surfaces. The reason I think is that this cane is designed as a weapon first in mind. A soft rubber tip would not be as durable as the plastic one for striking. The tip is also glued in place for durability plus the scabbard has a drain tube that goes through the tip so if the tip wasn't glued in place and rigid...the tube would dislodge from the hole in the tip. But I sacrificed durability for functionality and cut off the tip (which took some effort with a sharp box cutter and a small flat tip screwdriver) and replaced it with a 7/8" rubber tip and now it is perfect. The blade is wicked sharp straight out of the box. The "O" rings are in great shape and allows for easy withdrawal of the blade from the scabbard. If the scabbard is as tuff as a demo video I saw of the Knight Watchman Heavy Duty where the guy was wacking the crap out of stuff with the scabbard without warpage, this will be an awesome weapon. Just don't trust weilding it for a handle strike because the blade will come out of the scabbard. Very pleased with it and would recommend it without hesitation.

Pretty much what others say. Mine came with fine o rings, others say theirs came in bad shape, but mine were fine. More stabby than slicey, but it slices cardboard box well. You may want to check state laws before carrying it around. Feel much better put together than a wall hanger.

I bought one of these canes, years ago I maintain it about once a month and haven't had a problem yet with it. I keep it next to my bed, when I am not using it. Only issue is the rubber toe. It's very rigid and is prone to slip. Other than that it's perfect, would buy again if I ever need one.

Excellent blade. Also wonderful cane for a disabled veteran. I hope I will never need it but glad I have it and have other cold steel blades that are awesome too. James Grcevich.

Once the rubber O-rings that hold the sword in the shaft wear out it's basically broken. I've been every hardware store in town. Now I'm trying to file it to fit the O-rings that I could find that were close to the right size. Other than that it's a work of art

I had read all of the past reviews and was prepared for what to expect; the rattle of the sword in the sheath, dried / broken o-rings, hard to pull the sword out and slippery cane tip.. What I received instead was darn near perfect. The o-rings are in great condition with a slight lubrication making it easy to remove and insert. (Give the handle a slight twist when removing and reinserting will make it very easy.) There is no rattle in the cane at all and I discovered why. I had to cut off about two inches from the bottom to get the best length for me. They have installed a short plastic sheath in the bottom to keep the sword tip from rattling around. The hard rubber tip seems to be okay, but I replaced it when I shortened the tube length. The tip is glued on, I think, and had to be replaced anyway. The sword itself is very sharp (can easily cut you) without being too sharp (the edge isn't easily chipped). The tube sheath is fairly thick walled and heavy enough to be used as a club. Like I said - darn near perfect.

I received my cane and am happy with it. A thing to note: the O rings were shot the first time I drew the sword. I was expecting this from previous reviews and was prepared for it. I went to the hardware store and purchased #14 rings which work well. I may try #15 since they are slightly thicker. Another thing. This cane was designed for someone very tall. I'm 5'8 and also was prepared for this. A fix that I'm going to need to get assistance with as I don't want to cut the shaft myself and risk damage. Now, on to the smell.....I've heard different options for this from spraying some sort of air freshner inside to putting a dryer sheet inside the shaft. I don't think putting anything with a water base is a good idea inside the shaft rather an oil base as in WD40 or other spray lubricant would work better. Other then the above and, with a little tweaking I feel that this will work out well.

It only took 3 days for it to arrive at my door and that's fast for BUDK not to mention I got my initials engraved in it and it looks real good its in perfect shape I have no complaints the o rings r fine and the blade is sharp but u have to kind of break it in when u get it I had to pull it in and out of the staff a few times for it to get easier hard to explain but its cold steel you won't be disappointed its very nice and now my favorite sword I own I give it 5 stars!!!!!

At first sight ... I was certain that it was not 1055 high carbon steel, as it was polished to an exceptionally bright mirror finish. However, upon testing the blade's resilience (a tad of bending), it proved, to me at least (I took it to almost 45 degrees) that it was high carbon spring steel. The O rings that create the suction were in perfect condition (some reviews have stated that theirs were dry). I did apply some additional plumber's silicon (90% pure), just for giggles and grins. My only complaint is that the blade seemed a bit on the dull side. However, it is easily sharpened. The cane is quite rugged and stable. I would assume that it could easily support the weight of a 250 pounder. The scabbard (?) portion of the cane is exceedingly solid and, in and of itself, wouldn't make that bad of a cudgel ... just a touch light for that. But, none the less quite robust. I'm giving it five stars ... nothing else to add.

This sword cane is colds steel.for sue but I fear.the three.pins holding the blade in the handle are not going to keep for ever. I'd suggest thickening them an make them more snug in the holes. Nice an sharp length is great for some one at 6 foot tall. Blades over oiled.I think but that's no big deal. Buy it you absolutely won't be discouraged.

I own a second of these. They are good canes and excellent weapons but the rubber ring that holds the cane in the shaft is subject to break if you take the blade from the shaft a number of times. The original cane had a rubber shaft that slid into the cane shaft and held it securely. I imagine the new design was created to save production expenses but it isn't as efficient as the original design.

Solid thick blade. Sharp and sturdy. Like everyone else the plastic rings broke the first time I unsheathed the sword. The rings are simply the wrong shape, size, and material. But easily replaced. I got some soft rubber gaskets from plumbing supply, but may try to get some Teflon rings, or Viton o-rings for durability. Use a little grease on the o-rings. Despite the o-rings annoyance, this is the strongest sword-cane on the site.;-)

I've been using my Cold Steel Heavy Duty cane for a bit more than 2 years. I am 327 lbs, disabled and can't go more than about 8-10 feet without help. Cold Steel isn't full of BS when they call it HD! the tip IS more like plastic but as it wears it gets better traction. When it does wear out, simply cut the tip off where it hits the metal then leave the rubber sleeve inside the shaft so the blade can't touch the inside of the shaft. Then get a 1 cane tip replacement from the drug store. The blade in mine came razor sharp on all sharpened edges - full length on one side and about 12 more on the opposite side, giving you a VERY sharp double-edged defensive weapon. Do be careful as it is not legal in many cities, not just the 4 states they can't sell & ship to. This blade is only a few inches shorter than the shaft - a very effective weapon, if needed and the shaft can me used as a bat or to parry thrusts aimed at disabling YOU! One of the o-rings broke after about 18 months and Cold Steel replaced them quickly, and as others have mentioned, a #13 ring can be found at most hardware stores - tho' I

I am adding an addition to my review. The plastic end on the cane cane be rather slippery when on wet or icy surfaces so I just go to Ace Hardware and but a cane end large enough to fit over the factory end . Black pref. It is only a couple bucks and well worth the price as you will see.

I have two Sword Canes for Cold Steel and I couldn't be happier with any product I ever bought. Sharper than you could imagine, stronger then anyone would expect and the tube is heavy enough for a person of four to five hundred pounds. Now you must find a way to stop the little ting of the blade tapping the interior of the tube, and you must use spray silicon on the "O" rings at the top. I wish Cold Steel would make something set to the bottom of the tube to hold the tip from moving. I have seen something for holding knives somewhere that has something full of risers for this but can't remember where. Some plastic insert that has a slot for the top to align the blade with on at the bottom would due. but for a temp fix a rag or cork would do for a little while. This would not deter me from owning one of these remarkable canes though. I am around three hundred pounds and have joint problems. When I go in to the bigger cities I do not want to be the easy target I may appear to be and always take my cane. I do have to weigh the ability to defend myself against any legal issues of having the concealed weapon and the possibility of charges for having it. I think I would rather fight charges than be dead or stabbed by some junkie in a mugging. I always thought that should that situation arise I would poke the cane at them and let them try to pull it away from me allowing them to unsheathe the sword and also making them take a step back in doing so. That is when a sudden lunge forward with the sword fully extended would do its job with them at a bit of a distance. I would take a swat from the sheath while impaling the aggressor. Of course should they have a gun you may be at odds. Then you have to imagine what your response may be. My son had a very suspicious character follow him to his truck late one night at Wal-Mart. There were no other vehicles that far out so he was alerted when the guy was getting closer behind him. He just turned around and put his hand inside his coat and said I have a gun as___le what you gonna do do now? The guy ran off. One last thing I have just purchased a dragon walking stick from Cold Steel and am waiting for it to arrive. This thing is wicked too. strong enough to bash an attackers head in and intricately designed enough to be a piece of usable art. Check them out.

This sword cane comes razor sharp and built like a tank. An absolutely excellent sword for general use around the property. It cuts through sticks and small limbs easily with one stroke. It would easily cut open an attacking dog anywhere you hit him, or stab him through like butter. I wouldn't use a sword for personal defense without rigorous testing, so I have chopped two x fours in half with this thing, and four inch diameter tree limbs, trying to break it. I would much rather it break in practice than in actual use when I need it. It just keeps going without a dent, and holds an edge forever.

I've had mine for four years now, and have cleared my yard of all the tree limbs from every hurricane and storm since then with this sword and my Cold Steel Rajah II Folding Knife alone, just to have an excuse to play with them. I can't say enough good things about either of these Cold Steel Blades, or any other Cold Steel item I've ever purchased. I'm back here ordering another of these sword canes today because a friend of mine is a convicted felon and can't own a gun. I want her to have the best and handiest home-defense weapon that she can legally own, and this sword cane is it. Now she can disembowel burglars without violating probation!

Great tool. All the good things that have been said about it I agree!
About the O-ring problem:
1. - Slightly chamfer the tubing at the mouth.

2. - Smooth the inside of the tube where the O - rings seat when the blade is stowed. Use 320 grit or finer crocus cloth but do not Over do it.

3. - Use a little silicone grease to coat the O-rings and the inside of the tubing mouth.

The chamfered edge on the tube mouth will compress the O-rings as the sword is seated in the tube and will not snag or tear or cut the the O-rings as they pass inti the tube.

Also, as you are inserting the sword, as the O-rings enter the tube gently twist the handle at the same time push the sword home.
You wii be surprised how smooth and solid the sword will be to insert and remove.

Keep the O-rings lightly lubricated.

Just got my early Christmas present. It is better than I expected. I'm only 5'6", but I was easily ably to cut the cane down about 4" without trouble. The blade is very heavy duty, really sharp, and polished far better than I thought it would be. Withdrawing the blade requires a slight twist and a firm pull, but it works flawlessly. Workmanship is great.

On the outside, it looks like a sturdy old man's cane. No flashy dragon head or ornate carvings to draw attention. It is very functional, although slightly heavier than most canes. However, when the blade is drawn, there is no doubt that it can inflict heavy damage. In fact it is intimidating enough to probably scare any would be attacker away, unless they are carrying a gun.

I had read that the o-rings sometimes break. I suspect that is because the blade can be pulled out straight without twisting. This can cause the o-rings to roll over the handle and break. In any case, replacement would be simple...a trip to Ace Hardware. Also read that the tip of the cane is hard plastic. Haven't had any problems with it, though. It works well, and it can also be easily replaced.

Pros: great value, strong sharp blade, exceeds my expectations
Cons: went on sale after I bought it. Could have saved $5.00. (I had to come up with something.)

Probably one of my favorite pieces in my collection. The blade came very sharp (I sliced myself fairly bad while cleaning the blade) and it also functions beautifully as a cane. It's very solid and the blade is concealed rather well. My only issue is that the rubber rings used to hold the blade are somewhat unreliable. It can take considerable force to draw the blade. So much so that I ended up having to remove one of the rings. They frequently get stuck in the cane, making it impossible to be drawn with any defensive efficiency. Once drawn, this thing is perfection. You could even use the aluminum cane as a weapon, should the need arise.

Very good quality cane :D
Sword is high quality as well.
Fittings work well.
The best thing about this product was the actual blade...most cane swords have short blades...and they are low quality...this is the reall deal.
5/5 Nothing else compares.

I recently had my lower back fused, and needed a cane. Of course when I saw this and the fact that it was ok for orthopiedic use, I had to buy it (after begging the wife LOL). I'm only 5'7" so the cane was a little tall for me so O sawed off the end of the "sheath" and it was just right. I then noticed that the bottom was hard plastic and kinda clicked loudly when useing it. So I went to my local ace hardware and bought and inch and three quarter bottom piece and it fit like it was made for it.
As far as the o-rings that come with it, yes, they break or partialy come off when you try to sheath the blade. My advice is to run a little super glue around the o-rings. I did and problemsolved.

It's heavier than I expected, but I have no qualms about that. This is going to support my weight and I have complete confidence in the blade in a self-defense/showing off for fun-type situation.

First of all I will say I am overall impressed with Cold Steel's sword cane. To start with it doesn't LOOK like a sword cane. No dragon's head, no button release, it just looks like a cane. I am 250 pounds and have a bad back and bum knee. The big selling point for this cane, aside from the above mentioned appearance, is that it is built to be a cane. Heavy aluminum tube body, rubber pad on the end and a handle that fits nicely in the hand. the Sword. the first time taking the sword out was a difficult task. The subsequent times were simple as both of the O-rings crumbled when I removed the sword for the first time. It may be that whatever they use to preserve the blade is too harsh for the rubber O-rings. I had to buy my own rings and custom fit them, but they work just fine. No wiggle, and just enough friction to allow a quick draw of the sword. The sword is very heavy duty and built for a fight. I wouldn't hesitate to use it or worry about it breaking. The edge is razor sharp and it's built like a tank. Full thickness tang secured by heavy duty pins. There are a couple of shortcomings. One is endemic to sword canes and that is the lack of any hand guard. A hard thrust into a solid object may just see your hand sliding forward onto the razor sharp blade. This is a known trade off you make with sword canes and one to be mindful of when training/employing it. The next one is, in my view, a design flaw. Namely, balance. The balance point of this blade is well forward, approximately 6 inches out onto the blade itself. That means you have more of a heavy slashing tool than a well designed "fencer" blade. You have a devastating slash capability, and a very respectable thrust, which I'd recommend doing so by holding the crook of the handle to avoid the forward slide, but not much maneuverability. On the bright side, not too many muggers are carrying rapiers or cutlasses. They are, however, carrying knives which are far faster and more maneuverable. hack slash and thrust and you'll win. Try to 'fence' with them and I'm not so sure. Then again, I don't know too many knife wielding muggers who would hang around when confronted with a whirling razor sharp sword. I am very happy with the purchase.

I liked the cane when it arrived. It was only useful a day. The O-Rings were dry-rotted and crumbled the seconded time I pulled the sword out, to show one of my sons when he came by to visit. The blade is not very sharp at all. This cane must be very old or the O-Rings were bad, but unlikely because they would never have been able to install them due to the dry-rot.
