Product Description
This Purple Emperor Katana Sword from Shinwa measures in at an astounding 38 1/2" overall and features a 27-1/2" Damascus steel blade that has been heat forged and hand folded at temperatures reaching more than 1000 degrees. Each blade is folded nine times to deliver 1024 layers of pure cutting power. The blade offers a heavy fuller in the traditional katana design and is built to perform with its razor-sharp edge. The hardwood handle offers genuine ray skin with purple nylon cord wrap, brass menuki, and cast metal tsuba.
Great quality for what you pay, I've paid more and gotten crappier katanas, everything was solid, only complaints I have are the made in China stamp on the blade and there's a little wobble when in the scabbard as it seems more of a universal fit than a custom cut, but perfect addition to the collection

Purple Emporer
I gotta say that this is a great sword for the price. The overall quality of the sword is very nice. Its very sturdy and the scabbard fits snug.I also loved the fact that it came in a display box and had a sword bag too. Although the box is cheaply made it's still a very nice addition to the sword. My blade came pretty sharp but I'd recommend sharpening it if your actually gonna use it. Overall I am very impressed with this sword.

XMAS
Bought this for my son for Christmas.
He loves it, and that is a very good thing.
Also, it is a well made Katana, nicely done.

Shinwa Purple Full Tang
This is the most real battle ready sword you can buy for the money. It can always be more sharp for those complainers and the technique and what your slicing are the difference between a bent blade and lots of fun. The blade is easily formed back into place if bent. I prefer 1 gallon jugs and 32oz bottles. Its a no brainer when the bogo sale is happening.

Outstanding Value
I purchased during the BOGO deal and was immediately impressed with the speed of delivery. Secondly when i opened the package i couldn't believe how beautiful these swords were. The hand forging became apparent while cleaning the blades i could feel slight defection on one blade but nothing that would affect it's performance. The other is absolutely perfect so with i guess i have one for display and one to have fun with. Thanks Guys

my opinion
Do not let the manufacturing in china decieve you. They are made in China, but they a handforged and live up to their word and are not machine stamped.btw dont expect these blades to be perfect. They are handmade and humans were never perfect, so loosen up and call for a refund and hope that it will be better. I give thanks for the artisans and designers of these fine blades, and keep it up the good work as well

Love it
Very good quality. A sharp useful sword. Does not have the cheap feel like some. I would not be afraid to battle with this sword. Great deal.

Awesome!!!
I got them a few weeks ago (I bought it during the BOGO sale) and I love them. they are my first swords and I was very impressed. I was surprised to see they they came in a nice ordinate box. Both swords came sharp and they look great. Five stars.

Amazing Deal!
I bought this during a BOGO sale, plus the price was cut down to 100 bucks from like 160. So now I have not one but two of some real quality swords. I received them on time and excellently packaged. They came with nice display boxes and carrying sleeves. I immediately tested them both to make sure of the quality. My first reaction was at how heavy they were. They both had a hefty and authentic feel to them, while also maintaining just the right amount of flexibility. They didn't at first seem very sharp, but they cut and stabbed through cardboard boxes and water-filled bottles with ease. The swords and all their parts (tsuba and tsuki) we're sturdily attached, and while the scabbard may not have been as right as I wanted it, it was certainly not loose, and it looks great. Finally the purple is a dark color that accents the glossy black well. Overall, these are apart of my first collection of swords, and their quality is well worth the price I paid. One final note, these are not katanas, they are ninja ken or ninjatos, and are straight-bladed, however I saw no noticeable drop in cutting performance compared to other curved katanas I've used.

Love this sword!
I received my Shinwa sword the other day and I must say it's worth every single penny - and I was fortunate to buy it with a 25% off promotion! I own a few cheap-o swords that are nice and all, but there is a HUGE difference between those wall hangers and this battle-ready sword. The metal is high quality and it is RAZOR sharp. I pity the burglar that breaks into my home! The purple color stands out against the black scabbard and it looks great. It's now my favorite samurai sword! Buy one, you won't regret it!

Purple Knight
I Recently recieved my katana, and it is exactly what i was looking for. I love the dark purple wrap for it matches my birthstone (Amethyst) And it is tightly wraped on the handle. The thing that blows my mind for this low price is the blade quality. I wanted something unique, and the blade of this katana is strait unlike other katanas that are curved. not only that but the katana is damascus! This katana will be my favorite forever, and it deserves 5 stars, and then some. I am very pleased with BUDK shipping. This katana is worth every penny, and i will definitely be buying from BUDK again.

Shinwa Purple Knight Katana Damascus Sword...WOW
I am a sword collector and this is not the only sword that I have and bought from BUDK, besides other various swords that I've purchased over the years from other collectors and places. I am very happy about this purchase that I made. This sword definitely was worth the money! The blade is solid, sharp and straight. The handle is very comfortable to hold while practicing your favorite sword Kata. The only thing is that the sword blade is not a katana, it's more like ninjato. Other wise, this is a great buy, you can't buy better or even alike for the same price, not even close! It even comes in a beautiful display box. I don't know how BUDK sales this quality swords for dirt cheap price! BUDK, keep on doing what you are doing and I will be your customer for duration! Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. We have updated the review to reflect the appropriate spelling.

Not Bad
This is the first sword I've bought and i have to say that I am impressed over all. While the sword isn't exactly "razor sharp" it does come with a decent edge. The 2 things I don't like about it is that the tsuba is kinda loose and wiggles when swung and the 2nd thing is that this "ninja sword" says on the blade that it is made in China. Everyone knows that ninja come from Japan. Despite all of that, i'm happy with my sword.

Torture Tested
For one, I feel the need to debunk my friend here who said Damascus steel cannot be created today. According to a 1981 New York Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/1981/09/29/science/the-mystery-of-damascus-steel-appears-solved.html) and various other news sources which you can google, modern Damascus steel can be "synthesized" by sword makers today. It cannot be called true Damascus steel because it is neither made in the middle east or is the process exact down to the letter. Torture test results : A. I have left this is high humidity. Even without oil, it is difficult to rust. Recommend keep it oiled with a light oil such as olive. B. The spine appears to be soft life most katanas, but not so soft that it easily bends. Although not spring steel, the sword is very flexible and does not bend easy. C. The edge can cut through wire at least 14 gauge thick. The point has managed to keep it's shape even after thrusting, although you might find yourself using a small hammer to bend the point strait after thrusting into hard objects such as solid wood. The edge is sharp enough to slit fingertips if run across. The edge also appears to be somewhat softer than I expected. Metal on metal, the edge can nick. But that can also be repaired, wherein when a hard edge is chipped, you need a professional smith to repair it with new material. D. The hand grip appears to be well made and formed, but after whacking stuff for a while I did notice some play. When I removed the handle, the tsuba and the mekugi (which is impossible to do without destroying the handle as the cord, decorations and ray skin are all lightly glued together, I discovered the issue has to do with inferior mekugi. For those that don't know, mekugi are the little bamboo pegs that hold the sword's hilt into the handle. Anyways, the Mekugi are brittle and cheap. Overall, it is a very flexible weapon that can easily be maintained by the layman, but would suggest replacing the handle and mekugi ASAP.

great sword
I like the sword and recommend it. However I do wish I could get a Japanese sword, one with a slight curve in the blade.

Purple katana/ninjato
This is a solid sword arrived in nice packaging wrapped in cloth blade needed to be clean and the tsuba feels very brittle. I wouldn't sword fight with it, but it does feel solid enough to maybe try just be careful. Just because Budk has it in the battle ready section doesn't mean you can take it to war.

ok
received these fast. Got them today,( order one get one free thing)Opened the first one and was very disappointed, Dull Dull dull, No edge at all, good butter knife. The second one was great. sharp enough for me. Maybe that'ts why one is free. The dull one is why the rating is only 3 stars.

ninjaken or katana
Just received my ninjaken and it appears to be well made and as far as being sharp, well I believe that there are 5 levels of sharp. Out of the box I consider the blade to be a 2 and after about an hour on my wet stones it is now a 3. I was hoping for a Katana not a ninjaken (straight blade) and above all I was hoping it wouldn’t be made in China. These are the three disapointing things I have found in the first day with this……..sword. Someone with better eyes could possibly see the grain in the steel, I need a magnifying glass. It appears solid and well made so I’ll keep the thing.
