Good value. Reviewed by on Jan 01, 2017   4 out of 5

Though I have had this knife for over a year, I did not bother to sharpen it until recently. After reprofiling the edge, it took a much better edge than it was delivered with, and I was able to whittle with it easily, both edges shaved well enough. For a $20 knife its not bad. The handle is not the soft rubber I was expecting, quite firm, the guard is functional. As the knife is delivered( factory edge is marginally sharp) the sheath is fine. Sharpened by me, i'll have to make another as it is not a welted design. Though, for the $20 price tag, and considering the unexpectedly decent quality of the knife, getting a good sheath would be too much to ask for. Based on this knife, I will give Schrade another chance. While they are not the company of my youth making fine edged knives of 1095 steel in the US, I'll give their Needle dagger a try, as well as buying a few more of these boot knives. They are not the aluminum handled boot knives of the 80's, but they are a great value for a beater/suplimental blade. Reprofile the edges and you've got a good utility/defensive knife IF one pays attention to the dual edges, they do not suffer carelessness.
