Shinwa Handmade Red Satin Shirasaya Sword

Can't get better for the price. Edge is sharp, smooth, even. Feels sturdy and looks good. Also got a shinwa damascus wakizashi for $100 and this seems the more flawless sword.

This blade was good. I love it. It is really sharp so be careful. Mine slid out of the saya and cut my thumb but that was my fault.

I decided to purchase this shirasaya not only because of the price, but also because of the negative review. Most of the items that i review i give some sort of testing. With that being said, and I repeat ALL SWORDS WILL BEND, CHIP AND POSSIBLY BREAK IF ABUSED and a few in this world will hold up to a substantial amout of abuse! Lawd have mercy this is a sword in the sub $40 range. So the real question is will it slice? Yes. Will it stab? Yes. Will it deliver a critical hit? Yes. I have not tested this shirasaya against another hard or soft metal as i do not plan on meeting anyone on the battlefield in a sword fight! I have however done some chopping into a old phone directory that was in hardback form. The results.... Blade did not deform nor was there any chips or dents in the blade. I am no master of blades but merely a fella who likes collecting things that are very capable of performing, if needed. Now, the sword is very nice indeed. Who knows why this sword is marked down? Maybe there is a issue with the steel, maybe not. I know that i like it and i was able to pick up a very nice sword thats very sleek and just feels real good in the hand for the price of a display only sword. Steel is very soft, no idea what they did during the tempering nor the type of steel they used. But I put this to test against a $9 dollars knife that was bought at harbor freight and well, the $9 dollar knife's still fine as this sword were chipped everywhere, the backside of the blade was also dented when it was put to a parrying test. (The edge was abuse tested using both the knife's edge and spine.) Over all, it looks gorgeous, but I don't think I can recommend it for fencing practice of any sort. Light target cutting's also fine with this one.
