It’s sure to draw attention and stimulate conversation, so know the mystical sword’s history: The Silver Thistleclaw of Vairewood was born of the hallowed silverthorn tree, a towering, magical oak that grows in the center of Vairewood, home of the wise, immortal Vairefolk. Like the silverthorn tree itself, the mystical Thistleclaw shimmers with an otherworldly radiance - the essence of starlight from whence the sacred tree came. In the first age of the earth, many stars fell from the virgin sky - seeds of light sewn by Arla, the great mother goddess of Elsii - the Vaire name for all creation. While most of these brilliant starseeds burned out before reaching the earth, some fell to the ground and took root - growing magical, glowing trees of scarlet, gold and silver. All life on earth sprang from these magnificent trees - one bore fruit that grew into man, another fruit that became the Vairefolk, and still others yielded fruit and nuts that developed into all the other creatures - great and small - who roam our cosmic sphere. Eventually the trees stopped yielding fruit. Still, they continued to nurture life, as mystical flora - carpets of moss, tufts of mistletoe, creeping vines and more - took hold on the trunks and branches. From this dependent foliage sprang written knowledge, tools and other helpful items - all gifts from various gods and goddesses to the tree-born souls of the earth. By the second age, forces of darkness had crept into parts of the earth. Finding that man was easily corrupted, these evil entities began to poison the minds of some men, convincing them to oppress other creatures for selfish gain and glory. These warped, depraved men slaughtered and oppressed animals, other men and other living folk by the thousands, eventually arriving at the borders of Vairewood. Seeing the plight of the vulnerable Vairefolk, Haloeii, the flower god, blew stardust - magical spores - onto the Vairewood silverthorn tree. The starspores yielded a thistly vine that bore the fruit of enchanted weapons, which the noble Vairefolk used to defend their homeland from the evil men threatening its doorstep. One of these weapons was a beautiful but deadly sword the Vaire elders named the Silver Thistleclaw of Vairewood.
