Kershaw Knives American History
Peter Kershaw, who was an avid outdoorsman, founded Kershaw Knives because he knew the importance of guaranteed quality in a hunting knife. He started the company, in 1974, in Lake Oswego, Oregan, dedicated to intensive craftsmanship with appropriate, high-quality materials. Using extremely tight tolerances and state-of-the-art manufacturing, he ensured that Kershaw knives provide a lifetime of performance.
Why Choose A Kershaw?
Whether it’s a hardworking pocketknife, a hunting knife, or a special collectors’ edition, every Kershaw knife starts with American innovation, American design, and American engineering. In 1998, Kershaw Knives changed the knife industry landscape forever with its SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism. Today, the company continues to innovate with new designs and technologies at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tualatin, Oregon. You’ll find a wide selection of pocket knives that are precision built and backed by meticulous quality-control. Here are five Kershaw Knives favorites.
Launch 13 Automatic
First released in 2015, Kershaw’s Launch series is a collection of sleek, automatic pocket knives. The Launch 13 Automatic combines the best of both slimness and full-sized cutting capability. It has a Wharncliffe blade, which is slightly angled for a more versatile cutting capacity and the highly-sculpted, anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle is lightweight but strong. The 3 1/2” CPM 154 steel blade can be deployed with a push button lock that is low-profile on the handle, making it harder for the blade to accidentally deploy. The handle also features an integrated lanyard hole and a reversible, deep-carry pocket clip. The narrow profile and deep-carry pocket clip let the Launch 13 easily ride in your pocket.
Lucha Butterfly Knife
Do you flip? Do you want to flip? Then, the Lucha Butterfly Knife is for you! It was designed with feedback from real flippers. Next level materials include a 14C28N stainless steel blade and all-steel handle. Next level performance comes from Kershaw’s meticulous design. For instance, the blade tapers so that the top has more weight to pendulum around smoothly. The Lucha features dual KVT ball-bearing pivots for extra-easy operation. The handle has a rounded bevel, so it rolls effortlessly in the hand. Even the latch is rounded so it never catches as you flip. The latch also features a positive stop, so it never contacts the blade. Th light, fast Lucha Butterfly Knife will jump, fly, and spin in your hands!
Dividend Pocket Knife
Kershaw’s Composite Blade Technology is what makes the Dividend Composite Pocket Knife an exceptional EDC. This proprietary technology permanently joins two steels in one blade. In this case, Bohler N690 was used for the blade upper to take advantage of its corrosion resistance and extreme hardness and D2 was used on the edge to take advantage of its wear resistance and excellent edge-retention. The steels were permanently joined in a “toothlike” pattern, giving the blade a warbird-like style. The Dividend also features the SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism to deploy the 3” drop point blade using the flipper. The lightweight, strong aluminum handle scales are machined for a solid grip, and they’re anodized in olive green. The liner lock Dividend Pocket Knife has a four position, deep-carry steel pocket clip with a black, Teflon finish so that you have lots of carry options.
Blur Assisted Opening Knife
The Blur Assisted Opening Knife is equipped with a large, slightly recurved blade that’s ideal for multi-tasking and is easy to sharpen. The workhouse Cerakote finished, Sandvik 14C28N blade offers a good combination of strength and piercing ability. The blade has dual thumbstuds, allowing for ambidextrous, one-handed opening with the SpeedSafe opening mechanism. Non-reflective black just like the blade, the 6061-T6 anodized aluminum handle features Kershaw’s rubberized “Trac-Tec” inserts, giving you traction when using but still providing a comfortable grip. It also has a pocket clip for ease of carry.
Kapsule OTF Knife
This simple, yet effective Kershaw delivers utility in a convenient, compact package. The just over 3” overall the Kapsule OTF Knife is easy to cut with, easy to carry, and easy on the eyes. The unique utility knife opens with an out-the-front, manual sliding mechanism, securing the blade with a button lock. It’s just under 2” single-edge, 8Cr13MoV steel spear point blade is safe and easy to use, making it an excellent box cutter and the stonewashed finish helps hide use scratches. Unique texturing on the black, glass-filled nylon handle gives you a secure grip and the pivot and backspacer are highlighted in a blue PVD coating. There is also a single-position, deep-carry pocket clip for comfortable carry and a lanyard hole to offer an alternative option. Despite its utility, the Kapsule doesn’t look like a knife at first, so it’s a perfect non-threatening carry.
