The Schrade Out the Front Viper Assisted Open Knife is the third generation of OTF knives from Schrade. This model features a bead blast finished bayonet style blade that is sharp on both edges. This fast opening assisted knife slides open when you begin the process by pressing the slide trigger on the side. The blade locks up incredibly tight when open. On the front of the extremely comfortable, thin handle, there is a toggle safety that shows a red dot when it is live and ready to fire. To close the blade, you slide the blade lock which releases the blade--which you then slide down and reset using the slide trigger. This is one of our favorite spring assisted out the front knives. It comes with a deep pocket clip and a glass breaker is built into the base of the handle. Get fast--get the Viper!

Worth it!! Reviewed by Omar Mendoza on Sep 25, 2016   5 out of 5

The Viper came super sharp out of the box. The spring action was a little stiff at first, but after a few cycles and a touch of oil it was lightning. Fun and one handed once you get the hang of it. Can't wait to get another otf soon!!

My favorite OTF Reviewed by AJ on Dec 20, 2014   4 out of 5

The base product is impeccable. The action is fast and tight and the trigger and safety placement is fine if your hands are big enough. The pocket profile is also very satisfactory. My only criticism is the lack of a divot close to the hilt, but that is easily fixed with a round file and is more a personal preference than anything, and in no way detracts from the product.

Well Built Reviewed by Josh on Dec 12, 2014   5 out of 5

Yes the knife takes some getting used to but this thing works great. The blade flies out too fast to see and when opened it is very tight, no wiggle. Buying another!

Don't like it. Reviewed by wayne battersby on Aug 14, 2014   2 out of 5

It looked good in the photo, but the release mechanism is on the rear of the knife which makes it necessary to hold it in two hands to release the blade. The release should be on the front of the knife so you can work it with one hand. To slow to get into operation.

Great Knife for the money Reviewed by Cullen M. Crosthwaite on Aug 11, 2014   5 out of 5

Great knife for the money. Opening mechanism took a little getting used to. Really like the safety lock.

Excellent product Reviewed by Paul on Dec 29, 2013   5 out of 5

The Schrade OTF Assisted Opening Viper was an excellent purchase. Fast opening, easy closing. It does take some practice to open one handed bur once mastered, it is a very handy knife. I would recommend it to anyone.

Super sharp and lightning fast assisted opening out of the box! My friends were extremely jealous!

easy ops Reviewed by Alan on Jul 12, 2013   5 out of 5

I've had it about a month, don't know how I ever got along without it. My older hands and stiffness make opening pocket knives a chore, but this Schrade OTF zips out at the touch of the button. Using only one hand, I can unlock, deploy and close easier than any pocket knife I have ever owned. Stays sharp, strong construction, a great pocket clip, black finish is subdued for discreet carry. May get one for an old friend suffering the golden years like me.

Great and Sharp Reviewed by Kris on Jun 18, 2013   5 out of 5

very good action and pretty sharp out the box good thing it has a safety or i would have cut myself more than i already have

Nice Blade. Reviewed by Rodney on May 18, 2013   3 out of 5

This is a nice knife for the money. Action is smooth and blade is nice and sharp. The only thing I don't like is the location of the slide action lever. It should be much higher on the knife towards the top where the blade comes out. Being located towards the bottom makes it quite awkward to initiate the blade action while holding it securely. Much prefer my S&W Blackops spring assist knife. I carry that one every day.
