A modern legend, the Honshu Boshin Black Damascus Katana fuses proven, time-honored tradition with the best in 21st century innovation. Chic contemporary style and state-of-the-art appointments meld seamlessly with classic form and traditional hand-craftsmanship. Even the blade's centuries-old Damascus steel is reimagined and reworked for an exciting new look. Trading delicate, traditional trappings like ray skin and cord for tough, ultramodern materials like TPR, the Boshin is designed for serious, real-world use. It's remarkably well-balanced and an all-around pleasure to wield, and it boasts savage cutting power that's second to none. The imposing katana blade is rock-solid and impossibly sharp, slicing cleanly through rolled bamboo mats, thick wooden dowels and other tenacious materials – suffering neither crack nor fissure in the process. As if this weren't enough, the blade is breathtakingly beautiful, to boot! Made of black Damascus steel, it's covered in a whirlwind of ripples, waves and lines. To achieve these eye-catching, vividly contrasting layers, Honshu's master swordsmiths repeatedly hand-fire, fold and hammer weld two distinct high carbon steel varieties, sometimes for days on end. It's a slow, laborious process that has changed little since Damascus steel's development in the Middle Ages - no automation, every step diligently performed by hand. But the Boshin adds its own distinctive, modern twist; via an advanced process exclusive to Honshu, the blade's contrasting layers are shrouded in myriad shades of mocha, umber and deep onyx black. The result is a dark, brooding blade that shines brighter than the rest. And, like a snowflake, each black Damascus blade is unique. To put it simply, Honshu's Boshin Black Damascus Katana is truly the best of old and new. While it retains the noble spirit and awe-inspiring grace of the ancient samurai, the Boshin is without question a sword for the modern era – built to tackle the unique challenges and demands of today's warrior.
