Product Description
The Honshu Boshin Double Edge Sword fuses tradition and innovation to yield a masterwork of modern sword design. The sword boasts a 30 1/2” 1060 high carbon steel blade that’s unrivaled in sharpness and strength. Trading traditional trappings for sleek contemporary style, the cutting edge Boshin is an undeniably modern weapon. Textured TPR shrouds the handle for an ergonomic no-slip grip and the handle is crowned with an oversized polished steel pommel. The guard snubs fanciful ornamentation in favor of a practical pointed ellipse design. In keeping with the Boshin sword’s clean, functional motif, the scabbard is wooden with a semi-gloss black finish and features black faux leather wrapping and cotton cord. Wielding the Honshu Boshin Double Edge Sword is almost Zen-like - you just have to experience it for yourself!

A gift that keeps gives on giving.
Nioh here again black belt weapon expert. This sword is a gift that keeps giving left to right , down an back up , whatever way an back. Cut through objects with ease it give walls, wood, and metal hell if your opponent isn’t careful it will be a smooth chop an a sudden drop. It’s safe to trust in this sword I gave it opportunity an it didn’t let me down and it won’t you. If your shopping blades shop Budk an Honshu they don’t Disappoint.

Absolutely awesome modern longsword
Took no time at all to arrive and came perfectly! No damage or any issues anywhere on the outside and the blade is perfect. Oiled and wrapped paper slicing blade. This is my first Honshu product and first time using BudK. Was not disappointed with either. Surprised actually because I purchased multiple items at once and all were amazingly perfect. Going to have to order some more now! Thank you Honshu and BudK!

A Modern take on the old Longsword Design
There is definitely no buyer's remorse here!
The sword seems to be very sturdy and we'll put together. The scabbard is not gloss or painted; but wrapped in what looks to be a matte black plastic shrink wrap (not that this is a negative, but the pictures lead me to believe otherwise).
I purchased this sword due to it's clear connections to the longsword, and can say that it definitely met my expectations. The blade is light and has a good amount of flex and spring. Although it wasn't razor sharp out of the box, it did come sharpened. The handle is comfortable, and the pommel is proportionately weighted to make the blade easy to weild. Personally I love the practicality of it; the partial blade on the back side of the sword allows for worry-free shoulder carrying, or a place to put a hand for additional pressure should the need arise. The lack of a cross guard is barely noticeable, and from a "modern" standpoint, not at all a bad decision as the likelihood of running into someone else with a large blade is unlikely. I can say I definitely appreciate the thought that went into the design of this sword.
There are imperfections over the blade as is to be expected, however I honestly don't think that they're worth mentioning considering the price and overall quality. I wouldn't want the little negatives to overshadow what it is;
What you get is by all accounts a very fair quality sword that, if used as it was intended, seems like it would last a lifetime (this does not include chopping wooden objects unless your life depends on it...sorry). Like any tool, take care of it and it will do the same to you.

I have started to abuse the sword. Before sharpening to a smaller bevel angle, I delivered some pretty full powered hits onto fairly hard targets. The sword does not feel like it will break the way I've seen videos show heavier blades break at the tang (spartan and conqueror), because it has more flex to absorb shock. I was a little surprised to successfully bend the sword ever so slightly, it's not possible to fix it because it's not bent enough to fix, but there is a perceivable warble near the end of the fuller. Then I spent my morning now sharpening first filing to a more aggressive bevel angle, then honing with up to 1000 grit stones, and firstly I don't fear the edge will be compromised, it feels strong, it's not crumbling away like some blades do, it feels like a good sword. It cuts much better, less power and more relaxed technique, but still not like a katana. Straight blades are inherently more difficult to cut with, however, and it is outperforming others of my swords, with the only better performers likely being a result of their lighter weight (one handed cutting, I didn't do any two handed cutting), which allows me more control and less "swing and pray". The double-edged sword IS a bit heavy for one handed use. ,,,, It does feel like the handle will develop a rattle at the handguard one day, but feels like it will not affect performance. Overall I would rank it highly value for money, if you don't know about swords, this is a good place to know what a good one is like. A lot of recreation swords do not perform well in the cut until they are significantly more expensive.

It will take time to properly review, but first impressions
immediate impression is big and heavy. It feels good and powerful in two hands, but does not have a thin edge geometry, instead it is clearly oriented for thrusting and for having an edge that you don't want to grab. It's not REALLY designed for cutting, but the obtuse edge geometry is durable and DOES cut bottles if you hit correctly. The reason I wanted the sword was to work on my cutting technique when using swords that are primarily designed for thrusting and it's very good for that because many other swords don't hold an edge as well as honshu. The sword has a nice distinctive sound during a swing which really helps you work on your speed. It DOES cut but because it is challenging, it will offer obvious improvements with better technique and increased swinging power, so I am hopeful that it is a great cut trainer. The sound carries lots of information, the cut quality changes dramatically with the change in the sound, and the sword is JUST heavy enough to give exercise but NOT heavy enough to make it hard to use. I wouldn't sharpen it, just leave the bevel at it's angle and practice making that cut for you.

Good sword and priced well
I read the reviews about it having no wabble at all and I disagree, if you notice in the picture there is no Habaki peice which keeps the sword from sliding so while swinging the sword i could feel movement unfortunately. Still the sword is worth it very well made for the cost, not a big fan of the handle grip its a little rough but you can fix it if you wanted to. I like the fact that its a straight sword and not curved with the spear tip for stabbing. The double edge is good but does lose strength due to it. The Scabbard is nice as well. I haven't tested cutting bamboo yet but I'm sure it will still i wouldve liked a demo showing it cutting bamboo. All together i say its a fun sword to have at a great value. In the pic is where the Habaki would be.

Very Cool!
Absolutely love it, it is my 1st and only sword, I'm very pleased with the quality of the sword, but the scabbard is kinda crappy, but overall I still love it. Thank you BUDK.

Very Nice Product
This Sword looks Bulky and Heavy - Wrong - This Sword Is Badass - Nicely Balanced - Hold it one hand up close to the guard point down - You Hardly know its there - Very well made and A Looker as well - Yes it could be a bit sharper but you must be a very good swordsman to use one razor sharp - If you have to use this - It Will Not Disappoint - Swing and Recover Very Fast with this sword - For this price - You cant go wrong - Scabbard is exactly what I was looking for as well - Plain but not a piece of junk - I bought this to walk my dogs and not scare the neighbors lol

Very nice looking . but...
Just wish it came in a little sharper. I own this and one other of this brand, I would like if they could sharpen them a little more.

Honshu Double Edge Sword
Excellent product !!!
Tested sharpness on it & the companion Honshu Parang, both cut like a hot knife thru butter ! Hell, it even cutting me while polishing & oiling
Engraving was on the wrong side of the blade & not exactly what I asked for, but the blades are so good I decided to keep them both & will order 1 more.
Better than excellent for Ren Faire use !!!!

Pleasantly suprised
Had this sword for abot 6 months now, as described in some reviews, front edge is somewhat sharper than the back edge, which only travels half the length of the spine. After sharpening both sides to a 20°, paper cutting edge, I went to work in my backyard, on an old wooden chair. No chips, deformations or cracks of any kind.
Very impressed with the fit and finish,no rattles or looseness. Scabbard is functional and holds sword firmly in the sheathed position.
I also have purchased the conqueror bowie for my adult daughter, and I am looking at purchasing the ball bearing assist/ pocketknife( just no too sure about the d2 steel.)
Thank you honshu!

Slick and sharp - and very cool!
I’ve always wanted a sword from the RenFest but they were so expensive. This one is way more affordable and more practical. It’s also very sharp! This is best sword I’ve ever purchased! Great job BudK!

Very nice
I love the simplistic and functional handle. Double edge was a must for me. Looks great and is sharp right out of the package.

Love this sword!
The unique design alone is spectacular. However, the balance, weight, grip, and blade are perfect. I’m very impressed to say the least. The product description, if anything, falls short of describing its impressive characteristics. My favorite aspect is the double bladed straight sword design with the incorporation of Japanese facets. I performed the slice test on some fruit mimicking flesh and it exceeds expectations. Very satisfied with this SHTF event worthy blade. Definitely recommending it to others.

Wow!
This sword is awesome, it came sharp the front is sharper then the back edge (which I prefer) I also thought it was going to be too long but its the right length. I wish the guard was bigger but it will do, the scabbard has a wood core and a hard material around it, no idea what it is but its tough, and the guard and pommel are tightly secured. This is a awesome sword for the price I MIGHT GET ANOTHER ONE, THANKS BUDK AND HONSHU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good not great
I read the reviews about it being solid without movement but after swinging it i fealt alot of movement and then noticed it does not have a habaki peice which keeps the sword from sliding on katanas. I also don't like the hand grip its a little rough but thats easy to customize. The sword is well made i like how its a straight sword with spear tip for stabbing although the double edge takes away from its hardness a lil bit. Good scabbard and overall good sword for the price. I did not try to cut bamboo with it yet and would've loved a demo of so.
