This is not the first Honshu blade that I've ordered, and definitely won't be the last. This "Broadsword" (more of a Longsword if you compared it to similar historical blades) is everything that it claims to be: a modernized version of one of the proven classic blades from history. The polymer grip and sheath are nice and functional touches, though die-hard historical blade fanboys have been known to prefer leather grips to TPR. In my opinion the grip and sheath make for 2 less things that need to be protected from weathering, and do what they're supposed do while adding a more "tactical" and modern overall feel to the sword. For being a China-made blade, the quality seems to be firmly in the A-grade sword category, considering the price. The sword is symmetrical, well balanced, beautifully polished, surprisingly sharp, and fits snugly in the polymer sheath. As I stated at the begining, I have ordered other Honshu swords, and they have not arrived as sharp as this Broadsword did. Your mileage may vary, and you may need to spend some time sharpening yours. The blade has a good amount of flex, but feels sturdy. I don't plan to be doing any wood chopping to test or push it, but I imagine that in a "Zombie Apocalypse" scenario, you'd be pretty well prepared if you were carrying this particular sword. Lastly, I also have the polymer Honshu training Broadsword, and the real blade is distinctly heavier than the polymer one; Though they feel and handle very similarly. To finish up, I'm super satisfied, and will be having a hard time having any self control and waiting to order my next Honshu blade.

By far the best sword I’ve found online I’ve been collecting since I was 12 I’m 31 now I’ve studied melee combat and weaponry even blacksmithing if your looking for art 5 stars if your looking for something to survive in the apocalypse 5 stars if you are looking for a gift for someone else hang it up once you hold it you won’t be able to let go amazing steal UC outstanding work keep the high quality blades coming

The sword feels good in the hand and the blade is strong. This is one of the best swords I own. Although I'm pretty sure this is a longsword, I could be wrong.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this sword. It does seem to be 1060 steel, although it would be nice to verify that with some independent testing - I think that certification would definitely sell more swords for the company. It does come with a mildly sharp blade, but definitely needs some sharpening - either a good sharpening stone, worksharp belt sharpener, or other carbide hand-sharpener. You definitely need to put a few hours into sharpening the blade, but this sword is worth it! I do agree with the other reviews that the scabbard is a bit cheesy. It works, but why not give us an all composite tactical-style scabbard with no wood and heavy metal rivets. Most people are not using these as replica swords, they want something to have fun with or for defense. It would be cheaper, better, and also sell more swords. Gee, maybe they should hire me as their US-based R&D person??? I would sell it with a 1060 certification, a bit sharper blade, and better scabbard, then raise the price to $249 and sell 10X more swords!!! That's what the customers want!!!

Love the sword amazing weight and balance and sharp. Hate the scabbard went to put the blade back it and it split the entire thing and cut my foot pretty good

Typically, the stuff here on Budk is tiny, or not the best quality. Even if they show a person holding the thing, they use tiny people to make the item seem regular size. But this sword is a fine exception. It has held together very well through use, it's sharp and holds an edge, the parts are not wiggle-loose. It's a simple, but well-made sword. Whether your purpose is practice, or sparring (not recommended, this thing is sharp enough to kill or maim), or wall decoration, this sword is worth it.

I have collected swords for 40 years and rarely do I come across a sword that feels like this one.. that has the same beauty and has made me happy that I bought it as this one does. if you're on the fence about buying this sword get off the fence and buy it. the balance for me is about three inches from the hilt. It came mostly sharp but part of the joy of sword collecting is sharpening them and cleaning them. Buy the Honshu broad sword you will not be sorry.

Nioh here again black belt weapons expert. When I test a weapon I put it through some of the toughest Materials from walls , wood , an yes even metal. If it can’t get you through hell an back I’ll let you know if I know. This is a amazing sword be sure to use two hands with this beast of a sword one wrong twist will snap your wrist. Smooth well balanced ready to take on any opponent. Honshu has proven you can trust them to make a weapon to get you through the battlefields an last a life time.

Been eyeballing this sword for a while and finally had the chance to get it. A lot of comments I see are saying the sword is big. Yes and no. I'm 5'2 and I have no problem handling it. I do own quite a variety of swords (European and Japanese). The balance is right in the handle, which is were it should be for a sword this long. The only thing I had to do to it was tighten the rivets, for some reason they were not fully screwed so it felt like there was movement in the handle. But once I did that it felt solid. If your not use to handling a sword this size it will tire you out. The sharpness out of the box was okay, I did the finger nail test to see if it grabs on and it did. I did not take it apart yet to see how the tang is but from handling it so far it feels good. I did do some impact test with the sides of the blade to see if anything happened but so far like I said it feels solid. Other then the rivet thing I have just one other nick pick. I wish the blade was wider. For some reason to me, I feel the blade should be wider especially since the cross guard is massive. But other than that I really like this thing and I plan on having it for a very long to time for training.

I bought the Honshu Katana LONG version awhile back and I absolutely love it. I kept seeing the Broadsword on my emails and the more I thought about it, I wanted it to complete my collection. It’s so big. It’s damn near a body length sword. It’s amazing that it’s a single handed weapon but can be used with 2. The idea of an old school sword with a new age GRIP? That really grabbed my attention. I absolutely love my set.

This weapon is an extraordinary value for the price. I am a sword collector and I own several swords that are significantly more expensive than this particular piece. This sword appears to match several of them in material and build quality. So, for 'value for dollar', I will give the sword a solid '5 Stars'. However, there are a few things that, as a critical collector, I think could be better. First, there is the weight. This sword is heavy--and not necessarily in a good way. It actually weighs more than my Cold Steel Hand-and-a-Half Sword, which is about 1 1/2" longer. I'm sure this sword is tough, and would be a fiersome chopper, but know that it would also be exhausting to use in an actual combat scenario. The balance is okay, but I would not call the sword 'agile' or 'nimble' in the hand. I'm also not thrilled with the naked TPR handle. I get the durability and 'modern tactical' aspects, but still feel that the sword would look better with a quality black leather wrap over the raw handle. On that note, the scabbard is also not wrapped, but rather painted. It looks nice, however, and is identical to leather, even though it is not. The sword fits tight--perhaps too tight--in the scabbard. I'm sure it will loosen with use, but it's not a quick draw out of the box. With regard to the blade itself, there is a ricasso, or thicker, unsharpened section, that is about an inch long just past the cross-guard. I'm sure this provides additional strength to the blade, but is not long enough for half-swording, so there is a missed opportunity. The cross guard and pommel are brushed metal, which I like a lot, first, because they are a little unusual and aesthetically pleasing, but also because they look cleaner and hide smudges and fingerprints. In the end, however, putting all these fine points aside, if you are a beginning collector who just wants a 'real' 'battle-ready' sword that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, then this sword is an excellent value.

The sword was exactly as described but was even better then I thought it would be. Definitely worth it for sword fans.

Woe to you o misbegotten zombies! My first impression when unboxing was 'Holy crap, how big is this thing?' It is a heavy sword that packs most of its weight in the handle. The handle itself is made of a super grippy hard rubber TPR, which is a good thing because the cross guard and pommel are substantially larger than most broadswords. See my pic for a side-by-side comparison against another leading competitor. There is a definite feeling of raw power in that deadly weight you hold. The blade itself is a very well made cut and slasher. Most impressive! For the low price that BUDK charges if you can swing it, buy two. One to use and one to display. I absolutely, 100% guarantee, that when your friends see it, they will want to start cutting something up. Didn't you? Didn't I? Great stuff United Cutlery! And a big thank you to BUDK! A modern and fresh take indeed. A Winner.

The blade is perfectly straight it is a nice Edge it is durable and an overall beautiful sword I hope this company never goes out of business BUDK has always been my favorite ever since I found them and the people that made this sword I hope they never go out of business either or change their methods making great models battle ready Full Tang blades

I just as easily could have written this for my first one, which lives at a friend's place in Texas, but I recently got a second one for my home here in California. While I have several quality swords in my collection, this is my favorite longsword...light enough for one hand but effortless with two, and an excellent factory edge. Honshu/United Cutlery nailed it with this one.

I had been wanting this sword for a while and now that I finally have it I am not at all disappointed. It has a comfortable grip, it's sturdy and feels utterly lethal in my hands. I haven't personally experienced any issues with the hex bolts or noticed any wobble/other defects. Not an expert but it just *feels* right. Would definitely boost my confidence against zombies, goblins or invading barbarians! Until then it looks great on the wall and in training.

May 28, 2020

Just got the sword today overall I'm extremely impressed this is a beast of a sword it did need some sharpening it was pretty short but not to my standards so I gave it a good edge I could probably chop down a tree with this thing 10 out of 10

Jan 13, 2020

The top Rivet, closest to the cross guard has some play. Can push it back and forth, even though it has been tightened with my Allen wrench. Does anyone else have this problem?

Nov 08, 2019

great sword, well built and sturdy keep the blade oiled for it is not stainless, it cuts well and has a good edge. good for whatever you want it for.

Oct 30, 2019

The sword is straight up impressive. I’m 6’2” and the sword comes up above my waist. The handle is made of rubber and has a great grip. This is a great sword for the money.

Aug 25, 2019

I bought the Honshu katana, and love it, but I couldn't resist the price of the broad sword, which is one I always wanted. I've always admired the ones at the Ren Fests but they were too expensive. Now, I have the coolest blade on the block and can't wait to show it off! Very sharp - this is a functional blade, so be careful. I cut myself with the katana and barely felt it! Once again - great job, BudK!

Aug 25, 2019

Pretty good sword. I wanted something besides a katana so I got this. It's long and heavy, I don't know if it's battle ready or not but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this. Bottles beware lol

Jul 26, 2019

Saw this in February when it was pending release.Saved up for this beauty and I am more than happy. Perfectly balanced. Blade ,guard and hilt in total alignment. This is a real sword ,a bit heavier in the handle than most, but that makes it authentic to me.Tap the blade with something metal and it emits a resonant almost musical ringing sound. The 21st century style highlights makes it Jedi-worthy. Worthy of any modern Knight.

Jul 24, 2019

The sword just arrived today, super fast shipping!(Ordered Sunday, on my doorstep Wednesday. ). Looking at the overall construction, everything is tight and right. Great balance, decent out of the box edge and sharpness(if that’s a word). Absolutely can’t wait to see what kind of damage this thing can do, water bottles beware! This is going to be AWESOMELY!!!

Jul 20, 2019

This sword is awsome! Best one I’ve bought yet! Excellent quality, well balanced, and a true bringer of death!!!

Jul 19, 2019

I would prefer that the scabbard was leather instead of wood. But overall pretty good

Jun 27, 2019

I love this sword. It's large, but it's also balanced and the grip is excellent. Immediately one of my favorite swords.

Jun 26, 2019

Worth every penny! The sword is perfectly balanced, very sharp, and it fits securely into the scabbard.

Jun 25, 2019

This thing is a beast. For the cost it is well worth it. Came pretty sharp but not razor sharp. Only problem I seen where the bolts were loose. I tightened them and it’s all good.

Jun 20, 2019

It's worth $200. This thing is a true broad sword, big and heavy. Nice fit and finish for the price.

Mar 10, 2022

I was expecting it to weigh much more, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. Can be maneuvered as easily as a dagger, plus it's edge is also durable. Seems to be rather sharp as well. Excellent quality product for the money. Compared to the Gladiator Sword however, I'll give this 4 stars instead of 5. Gladiator Sword weighs just as much, way thicker yet costs half the price. The Broadsword blade has a bit if a wobble to it, the Gladiator, absolutely none. If you was to slash a person with the Broadsword, I wouldn't be surprised if it would chop off a limb or decapitate someone. However, in a sword fight Versus the Gladiator, the Broadsword probably be in two pieces, or at least dent of crack against it. I however am not willing to invest $300+ to figure that our.

Apr 13, 2020

I have the same problem as Rique Strong, the top rivet can be pushed back and forth when fully tightened, with the addition of one other problem. There is some wobble on the bottom of the tang, it feels close to the bottom rivet which is fully tightened. I don't know if that is a big problem or not. It is a bit annoying when handling the sword but I have no idea if that inhibits the sword from being more or less functional. Otherwise a beautiful weapon, I adore it.

Nov 10, 2019

Got this sword in mid-september. I have mostly good things to say about it. It's sharp enough to shave with, and is weighted tremendously well. My only concern is its long-term durability. To be fair, for context, I was attempting to cut through a wooden kitchen chair. It didn't have any metal parts and was fairly old, so I thought it would go through it relatively easily. Unfortunately, instead, it snapped right at the tank, and the blade almost hit me in the face. Taking one star offered that. It seems like the sword should have gone through that without breaking like it did. If I can get it repaired, I absolutely we'll keep it, and would recommend it. Obviously, don't be a dumbass like I was with your cutting tests, because it does have limits.
