As a birthday present I have to say that this takes the cake (sorry for the pun). This is not my first sword but it is the first one that has a clay tempered hamon line and it is beautiful. The balance is exceptional and the edge is a razorblade. I can not believe this sword was less than $100.00. Well worth the price and then some. I am very happy with this blade - Thank you Budk

A slight bend but was able to bend straight with ease.
For the price its worth it, but if you want a beast youre gonna have to spend atleast $600 from a high quality forge.
All the good things about this sword that everyone has already mentioned are true. It's excellent quality, especially for the price. My only complaints are that the blade seems to lean slightly to the left towards the tip (even before cutting), and that despite the "sharp, hand-honed edge" straight from the box, the blade wasn't cutting very well for my initial test cuts with it. A short time sharpening with an Accusharp fixed that problem. Now, the sword cuts just fine. Overall, it's an excellent buy for the money.
I am so extremely impressed with not only how fast my Musashi Miyamoto arrived, but also at how prefect it was. The hamon was my main concern. I was worried that it would b extremely beautiful on one side and not so much on the other. Totally not a problem, hamon is strikingly beautiful on each side of the blade. I also own a $250 Ryumon folded and differentially tempered katana. And out of the box the Musashi was tighter, and the hamon on the Ryumon folded katana was amazing on one side and the other side off the blade it was less than half the size, to the point of barely being able to see it. Needless to say I was a little let down but LET that one go bc that was my first fully functional katana. Out of the box as far as the whole handle, no creaks or anything loose so far. But like I said I've only had it not even 24 hours. But with the Ryumon, the handle made a cracking noise when practicing, meaning swinging it in the air at full speed,equivalent to a boxer shadow boxing, it felt right but I new something was wrong. Ended up being the kashira ( pommel, end cap), wtfe, I'm not going to be the guy that uses every Japanese word and expects your average person, or even a first time buyer to know or even worse have to look it up. So I ended up having to put the kashira in a vise and crush it some. Totally fixed it.
But anyways back to overview. Awesome sword, looks amazing, tight, straight blade, unbelievably fast shipping, they said 7-10 days. I got mine in 4. The sword is sharp, not expertly sharpened sharp, but way sharp enough to kill or possibly remove a limb, so be advised. I say expertly sharp bc my good buddy owns a knife shop and when he's done with any of my blades, I can shave the hair right off my arm , and there's no resistance, the hair literally jumps off.
However, I have two small things to nitpick about. #1 - I'm going to have to shim the saya (scabbard), because when I turn the housed sword upside down, it will fall out, which is not good, but no big deal, I've never done it before but I had an idea, and when I goggled it I was correct on how to do it. #2 as I checked out the saya (scabbard, sheath) I'm not going to tell anyone how to describe things.) I noticed a small chunk out of the saya, very small and hardly noticeable, bc it's lacquered over. And like I said it's very small and with this being a $100 beautiful functional sword, I really can't complain much. But I will complain if the handle starts becoming excessively loose. Bc T.S. I bought this sword on sale for $70 or so dollars whish is insanely cheap seems i feel its at least a $200 sword all day... Any who my sword i compare it to is my ronin rk, for starters the musashi is more refined looking, alternating ito wrap ronin no, and overall fit and finish. Also the ronin is 1045 clay temperd the musashi is 1060 clay temperd (with a beautiful real hamon line ronins was nice also), clay temperd is very rare in a sub $200 sword usually a fake hamon applied during polishing, never ever on a sub $100 sword! The habaki on ronin is ground uneven and very sloppy shaped, the musashi is well shaped. I do like my ronin at $130 its more expensive and feels looks inferior to the musashi. As far as blade tempering i dont know yet. (The ronin has a deeper curve i do like that) the musashi cuts great, out of the box untouched it precisely and super cleanly cut the top a water filled milk jug, my second swing it cut another super clean sliced additional layer only 3/4" tall! I couldnt believe it to take such a small amound off a jug with top allready cut off...for an entry level sword its awsome. In my opinion its the best quality and differential treated sub $200 sword available!
I bought this sword with a little skepticism of how good could a real clay temperd $99 katana on promo sale for $69 be...!? Answer surprisingly awsome! I own a decent quality budget clay temperd Ronin RK series i loved that retailed for $130, and this sword is noticeable better. The fit and finish is great and looks awsome, nice real hamon line anf it cuts awsome! Straight out of the box I was able to slice a 1/2" strip off a milk jug after the top had been cut off already...! If youre looking for a super deal on a katana any musashi clay temperd 1060 line like this "mimoto musashi" or the "bamboo warrior" (it has same blade) and others with that blade there in the $99 to $109 range retail. Do urself a favor and buy one you will NOT be disappointed!!
I bought this eight years ago and is still holding strong no rust issues as long as you maintain it. i even used it in a competition its well balanced and at a very good price for the quality even if the price has gone up.

Much better than my previous 2 orders, much more sturdy and reliable. I'm just trying to figure out why my Japanese Musashi Katana was made in China. Go figure that the 1 part of the sword that is loose and raddles and clanks against the metal is the one piece labeled "Made in China". Other than that, the sword is sturdy and I'm pleased with the value I got for such little financial investment. It came pretty sharp, but not as sharp as I was hoping. That's not a problem though because it's something I can fix myself here at home. I did 2 cutting tests as soon as I got it. Cut right through the bamboo thing and also two 1 gallon milk jugs lined up (cut through both, straight out of the box). This is a good sword for $99, but there are 2 or 3 others on this site that are the same price but may actually be better. The bamboo warrior model for example. I wish I would have gotten the red version of this one, but due to problems with shipping promotions and having to place the order over the phone, I had to get this model, the black one.
Once again, 6/10. Maybe 6.5/10
By the way, my sword is named "Shirakawa" and was forged by "Steward Lee" a few months before I even placed the order.
They just don't make them like they use to. That's what happens when you buy a mass produced item. The only thing you can do is take care of it as best as you can, and be very careful to learn how to use it properly so it doesn't get badly damaged if we are sent back to the dark ages and you end up in a duel lol

For this price, just a beautiful sword. Very simple. Razor sharp, so user needs to beware. You really cannot beat the value at this price. I've see a lot less on more expensive swords.
