Awesome

This is a REAL survival knife! I have put it through hell and back and it's unbreakable and keeps a sharp edge. It's hard to believe the cheap price of this knife.

Schrade

I bought this knife about 3 months ago and have used it camping several times. My first time using it the Teflon paint started to rub off. I love it very much, it handles all that I need it to. That includes batoning and making feather sticks. The handle is thick, but is proportionate to the knife. The sheathe doesn't really do much good on a belt because its too heavy and will always pull your belt down to the side you wear it on. The string tie doesn't help either, after wearing that for long the string will come loose.(I changed mine out for some 550 cord.) The 90 degree spine is great with ferrocerium rods, shoots off hot sparks very well.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH

This is one of the best survival knives for the money you can buy, if not the best knife..It is made super strong and for the Smoky or Rocky Mountains, it's that tough....and sharp! The blade is a quarter inch thick! Full Tang... My question is, the review Disappointed below on this page - what was he holding to have the blade fall off - ??? The only way the blade would fall off of this knife is if you fell off a cliff with it. Happy trails...

awsome

let me start off by saying I ordered this knife with the 7 to 10 day shipping and I recieved it in 4 days which was great. As soon as you hold this knife in your hand you know it's built to last. It's very hefty and the weight makes it great for chopping or batoning wood. Right out of the box the blade was sharp enough to shave the hair off my arm. The handle is a little bulky but fits my hand well because I have big hands, for someone with small hands it might be a little uncomfortable to hold, but the grips can easily be removed by loosening the hex screws on both sides and could be wrapped with paracord as a less bulky alternative. The notch below the blade and the ridges on the top part of the handle make for enter control when precision cutting is needed, even if you are holding it upside down. I have read some negative comments about the sheath but I personally am happy with it, it holds the knife in place well, I like the fact that it can be taken off your belt without having to take your belt off and I love the fact that it comes with a detachable storage pouch that easily holds a small sharpening stone Ferro rod and a small bit of tinder for fire making and even fit a small amount of survival fishing gear including fishing line a few hooks and sinkers and a few small lures

awsome

Price to value 5 stars. Bush craft tasks made easy, 5 stars. Ease of use, 5 stars. This knife will still be around, long after I'm gone.

Great value blade

First off, I want to specify that I am reviewing the Schrade SCHF9, NOT the SCHF9N. Although very similar, the SCHF9 is made of 1095 high-carbon steel with a scandi grind and the SCHF9N is stainless steel with a hollow grind. This knife represents a great value for the price. If you take the grips off, you'll be pleasantly surprised to see there are no weight-saving cuts on the tang, ensuring this blade has no weak points you aren't supposed to see. Something I wish the KA-BAR Becker BK line would adopt. The edge comes reasonably sharp, but retains its edge very well under harsh treatment. This thing can chop like a pro for days without needing its blade refreshed. The obvious quarter-inch thick steel makes you feel a lot more comfortable when using it for tough tasks too. Likewise, the coating is very well done and holds even when batoning hard woods. The only thing I can honestly say I dislike about it is the recurve blade. If the recurve were absent, it would be perfect for me. But that part is just personal preference. I hear a lot of complaints about the sheath though. My stance on included knife sheaths is as follows. You are paying for the knife, not the sheath. Most high-end knife companies don't even supply a sheath unless specially ordered. You are expected to make or buy your own sheath, as people have different preferences of how they carry knives. So in essence, disregard the sheath entirely. Think of it as an included knife accessory that you may or may not decide to use. If you want a better sheath, contract someone handy with leather or build one yourself out of kydex. You paid for the knife, the sheath is just an extra. Overall, excellent knife, even better bang for the buck. Thanks again, Bud-K You never cease to deliver!

Great Value

This is a very strong, easy to sharpen blade. It keeps its 1/4" thickness almost all the way to the tip. I would not think twice using this for prying. However, I used my Smith's pocket sharpener on it and the edge angle was good until about 1.5" from the tip, then the angle didn't match my sharpener angle. I will have to hand file it so it matches the rest of the blade. Not a huge problem. The grips are alright, but I ended up using a soldering iron to custom stipple for a no-nonsense grip. I do this to some of my polymer-framed pistols and it is always an easy improvement. The sheath is alright, but would like to see a tighter woven Molle strap on the back. Also would be nice if offered in different colors to blend with nature a little. These are small things that can be easily remedied, and for under $40, I love this thing. It's going on my plate carrier vest as soon as I beef up the Molle webbing or buy a different sheath for it. Well worth the low price tag for an all around camping/combat knife.

Strong and quality

Another typical Schrade. Form fit and function impeccable. Razor sharp out of the box. Strong as a tank. Five stars all the way.

Darn nice

Watch the video there are no lies. Great all around blade. Comes sharp with a good sheath and if you smooth out the grind marks it gets even sharper. For the price you can't get a better 1095 knife. Handle feels different than what I am used to, pinky and ring fingers set a little different, but it is comfortable. I think the Gil Hibben Alaskan knife compares just little better for comfort and ease of use but it is SS. I own both and let the weather decide which is better.

Darn nice

sturdy

Thick well made blade. Can be used to chop pry or dig and since its carbon steel you can use it to strike a spark for a camp fire.

A must have knife for the outdoorsman

This is, without a doubt, the best survival knife on the market today in this price range. A BOLD statement you ask? Not really. Because to get a similar knife to put up against this, you have to spend more than double. There simply is no knife on the market today, under $100.00 that can compare to this knife. And, this is a knife you can trust your life to in any situation. This blade is 1095 high carbon tool steel, one of the best steels to make knives from. It is a full QUARTER inch thick. It's like a sharpened pry bar. I split 3 to 4 inch thick seasoned oak in my workshop with this knife last winter just to see if it could. Aside from a little wear to the blades rust proof coating, It doesn't even show. Don't take my word for it. Go on youtube. I dare you to find one person who thinks this knife is a fail. There are close to 20 different reviews & everyone says, I can't believe this knife cost so little. You'd be a fool not to own this knife if you spend any time in the outdoors. Oh, & the sheathe is high quality design ballistic nylon with a plastic liner & removable accessory pouch that's perfect to carry a multitool, fire starter, signal device , or flashlight. I keep a Swiss army knife & a Fire starter with micro inferno's in the handle. I added a small whistle & I'm set for anything. The only down side is the sheath is not ambidextrous. Due to the shaped plastic liner, the knife can only go in one way. However, it can still be worn on the left hip & drawn underhand. Like I said, try to find 1 person that DOES NOT like this knife, I dare you.
