Don't mean to be overly critical guys, but those of you who are writing in and describing your experiences with 30+ year old knives have to understand that your info. is no longer current..not the same companies manufacturing the product, less hand-finishing, and probably different metallurgy...

Made in China Reviewed by Todd on Aug 29, 2014   3 out of 5

"Made in China", that will probably get this review deleted. I have had an Uncle Henry knife in my pocket for over 40 years. I've always known Schrade knives to be outstanding quality. I suppose that's why I haven't bought one for about 15 years. I haven't had to. My favorite knife I've ever had was the Schrade Golden Spike. Great Knife! Along the way, over the years, that particular knife removed itself from my possession, so I decided I would replace it. BUDK had it in their catalog, but just before I ordered it, I saw the 171UH here at about the same price. I figured it could only be better than the golden spike. I mean it had almost all the features anyone could want with a hunting knife. Imagine my surprise when I received it today and saw the words "Made in China" on the outside of the box! I've been out of the loop to long. I looked it up. Taylor bought the rights to the name in 2004. Schrade no longer is in the knife business. Ok, so now that is out of my system, lets talk about the knife I got today, starting with the sheath. Looks to be as good a quality as any leather sheath I have ever owned. No problems there. Knife: The pommel has a screw that was set partially recessed then ground off at an angle and somewhat polished. The guards edges have a sharpness to them that rival the blade, along with some burrs that should have been polished off. The handle is hollow plastic with an offset to the pommel, so there is a sharp edge there also. The blade seems to be a good shape, size and proper thickness. I haven't sharpened it, (It definitely needs sharpening), and I won't ever use it, so I don't know if it will hold an edge or not. I don't ever remember having to sharpen a new Schrade knife before. I believe that when they were made in the USA they came sharp right out of the box. In conclusion, I gave the knife 3 stars because it isn't the schrade quality I was looking for, but since it was only $30, I guess I got what I paid for.

This is a outstanding knife , quality blade. The handle is not what I expected all other points are great. This will serve the purpose. Sheath is very nice and will last the life of the knife. I rate the Schrade Uncle Herry Pro Hunter at 4.5 with the handle as the only draw back. Hand may slip away with hard draw back. Would I recommend this to a friend yes.I am satifyed with this tool. You decide.

YUKON KNIFE Reviewed by Tom Homer on Jan 18, 2014   5 out of 5

I was given this knife by my bro for a birthday gift which he purchased from Bud K. and when I held it I thought of Sergeant Preston of the Yukon and his trusty dog, King (for those of you old enough to remember) and thought this knife is one that Sergeant Preston would have loved to had on his gun belt. It is a beautiful, solid, skinning knife that is made for the Yukon, thick, sharp blade, a man-sized handle for a tight grip while skinning out a bear or moose or defending yourself against a wolf or badger attack. This Hunter Knife will hold up to the tasks of the wilderness and comes with a heavy duty, durable leather sheath to carry it in. Trust me, your wife will be jealous of this beauty when she sees the way you hold it and look at it. Happy trails.

got this for my son so he would have a good, quality knife that will last years. was not disappointed. razor sharp, and schrade quality blade. was a little let down as I thought being schrade the handles would be real but I think they are plastic. still a great knife for 25 bux. sheath is heavy duty and well made. son noticed a slight area of pitting on the hand guard.

I'm an avid knife collector and this Bowie can easily stand up to a 100+ dollar knife. Surgically sharp out of the box, and very nice sheath. If you need a sturdy, well made, sharp, quality knife I recommend it!

I bought this knife in 1978 and have used it in the North Georgia mountains and in Colorado. It is a versatile tool that stands up to anything and sharpens like a razor. It travels with me everywhere I go. Thanks.
