"For $99 I am very satisfied with this product. Everything is tight and well constructed, and the Damascus steel looks great. My only complaint is that the blade is not as razor-blade sharp as advertised -- i.e., it's sharp and definitely needs to be handled with care, but they make it sound like it's amazingly sharp ... not true. I did find a video on YouTube that shows you how to deconstruct this type of blade in order to sharpen the blade using progressively finer grades of wet sandpaper, so, maybe I'll do that just for fun! Anyway, the blade fits snugly into the scabbard without being too tight, so, other than the sharpness issue, everything's perfect. My only other gripe is that Shinwa claims to be headquartered in Japan, but on the blade, it says, "Made In China." Anyway, thanks, BUDK for a great price on a great product!"

The true value of Shinwa

"I bought two of these during the recent BOGO offer, 99 for one, so in reality, 50 per sword, one for myself, and one for a friend, one was straight, sharp, but scratched up on the blade and saya, and also was incredibly hard to fit into the saya throat, almost to where you feel your going to split it. The other sword was not scratched, fit its saya better, but was bent, about 1/3rd down the back of the blade. Minor tweaking over the knee, straightened it, really bringing into question the heat treat quality on this piece. I have bought other Shinwa swords in the past that were priced around 75 dollar range, and they were better than these, which are supposed to msrp for 175. My summation...Shinwa is a 50-100 dollar sword, and suitable for that price range. Overall, pleased, just giving my experiene and review."

I'm happy with it!

"I've owned a few fully functional blades but this was my 1st Shinwa. I admit it has met my expectations of a good blade and it has withstood 1/8 plywood...medium sized logs and old fashioned dense plastic milk crates...but against bamboo and even glass (I've had blades that deal with glass just fine) will be the ultimate tests for this weapon...looking forward to performance results!"

Workhorse Blade

"This Sword is as Budk states. Its function is not outweighed by its beauty. Yes there are Shinwa swords that ooze lavish in all the details, but do not be dismayed by its ability to deliver in its feel and function. I actually like the simplicity of this Katana. The blade has this attractive matte Damascus effect that's really impressive if you can appreciate what it really takes to produce. So much I like this blade, that I have two of the Blue Knight Swords. They proudly hang next to the regal and not so regal alike! after all a quality sword is truly measured by its ability to perform, not always about how much bling it sports!"

"Solid and well made. The finish work on the edge was a little weak. Especially near the handle and after disassembly the tang was rough... very rough. Absolutely no finish work at all there. Just ground down and left. But that’s been standard with all of the Shinwa blades I’ve purchased. Not really a big deal... Honestly other than the rough ground tang I have nothing negative to say about this. It’s a good solid katana for the beginning collector and well worth the price. Even the bag was decent."

Almost Peftect...

"I ordered two during a Buy One Get One Free sale, one for myself and one to give to my brother for Christmas when it came around. They took about a week to get here and when they got here I found one of the blades was absolutely perfect... the other blade had a dull spot on it, so much so I could run my finger up and down and not get cut at all, but at least the area near the tip was sharp. I do recommend the sword if you can get one that's well-made, just order knowing it might not be perfect."

"This sword came in a week. The sword is beautifully crafted frome the biohazard tsuba to the damascus steel blade. Also very sturdy and light weight. Only flaw is that the biohazard tsuba was alil loose and moves around alil when im swinging it around but its not enough for for me to regret my purchase"

"The sword is beautiful - the Damascus pattern is very mild on the blade, allowing it to look like regular steel or Damascus based on the lighting. The blade isn't razor sharp, but plenty sharp enough to cut through anything out of the box. All in all, its a wonderful blade, especially for the price."
