Don your tartans and put in "Braveheart!" Timber Wolf's gone "highlander" with its cool modern take on the legendary Scottish sgian dubh knife - the "Highland Thistlethorn." Part of traditional Scottish hill culture for centuries, the ancient sgian-dubh was a small, single-edged knife used for practically everything from food prep to personal protection. Timber Wolf's contemporary version is just as versatile, retaining all the qualities for which the original was so lionized, while adding modern upgrades that make the Highland Thistlethorn a practical, capable knife in 21st century America. Make no mistake - the Highland Thistlethorn is no novelty historical reproduction, best relegated to the display case or prop chest. It's a serious fixed blade knife with serious cutting power, boasting a razor sharp, single-edged stainless steel blade with a bitter, piercing point. Like the sgians of old, the Highland Thistlethorn is ideally sized - large enough to tackle rigorous back country chores yet small enough to easily transport and/or discreetly tuck away in the included genuine leather sheath. The Thistlethorn's rustic buffalo horn handle adds a raw, natural touch befitting this wild ancestral blade, with ergonomic form and finger choils for a firm, comfortable grip. You don't have to visit Loch Ness, Stirling Castle or Bonar Bridge to experience the famed Scottish highlands - just wield Timber Wolf's Highland Thistlethorn Sgian Dubh and you'll hold Scottish history in your hand!

Beautiful... but... Reviewed by SCOTT KNISS on Jun 17, 2018   5 out of 5

I've seen several knives like this here on BudK... but they all have the same problem; they're not sgian dubhs. A sgian dubh is 7" long with a 3 3/4" blade, meant to be carried at the top of kilt hose (formally) or (informally) inside the cuff of a boot. I wear kilts regularly and would LOVE to add this blade to my collection, but the size makes it very uncomfortable to wear. I absolutely love the design; simple, elegant, and functional... so if the size could change just a wee bit, you'd have a hands-down winner...!!! :)

Beautiful buffalo horn handles. Very sharp out the box. sheath is Meh... but the blade fit and finish is perfect. I just like holding this knife
