Reviews

Surprising

"I have a smaller Karambit and I love it, but this was everything I love about that and more. Perfect hand feel, which is critical. Razor sharp edge and a needle tip that nearly perforated me just bumping against it. Lightweight but substantial enough to do some real damage. Worth every penny."

Great knife, looks good and

"Great knife, looks good and is sharp out of the box, but the harness is awful. Would defientaly recommend this blade to anyone that like knifes."

Practice makes perfect

"After hesitating for about a year, I finally decided enough was enough, it was time to add this karambit to my lineup. Before that, I purchased a couple Black Legion karambits here at BudK, which are good blades too. Those Black Legions have a smaller grip, and didn't fit my hand. This knife is about 20% bigger, and fits my hand much better. This sheath is quite a bit better as well, it should stay sheathed and I tried to dislodge it but couldn't I have learned something about sheaths that are "complementary" and "included" with a good number of blades, here and everywhere else. You will quite likely want to see a case maker, to create something just right for you. After all, knife fighting and self-defense are critical to survival, and so is being able to access, deploy and re-sheath your blade. First of all, if you like the karambit line, this is a great blade, go on, order it (or two); it'll make you smile with satisfaction and confidence. Next when you get it; PRACTICE your moves. Ask a friend to help you figure this out, so you'll need a couple of these blades to practice with. Soon after that, it's quite likely you'll want a custom sheath, do that too. Because these blades are great, and the sheath is a second thought. I was a case maker, take a hint and get to know your blades, and seek ways to use them for your needs. Every person has a different body style, and ideas about how to use a blade to defend themselves. Once you decide how you want to carry it, practice using it. The videos used here are for demonstration purposes, and I love 'em. Sometimes they even make me cringe! lol But if someone stopped you in a dark parking lot, and this was your only way out, you'll wish you practiced, and knew more about how to deploy, and just as important; re-sheath your blade. Imagine some geek fumbling around in the dark, getting his karambit stuck in his jacket? Don't do that! Should you own a Honshu Karambit? You bet your ass you should, especially if you want to win and walk away. BudK you guys are doing an awesome job, you have exemplary shipping, great systems in place for customer service, never seem to be out of anything, and prices? hands down, great way to defend yourself. Thank you BudK, keep up the great work."

Great knife for self defense

"Great knife for self defense or utility. The sheath with it also has belt loops so you can wear it on your belt if you don't want to use the shoulder rig. I love the knife and I am very happy with it. Shoulder rig isn't as bad as people say and it's quite comfortable but I prefer to where it on my belt. I would recommend this knife to anyone from a martial artist, a security gaurd or someone who will only use it to cut boxes."

Great Knife

"This knife is awesome! The shoulder holster is pretty much junk. So that's why I gave it only four stars. The knife is razor sharp out of the box. Fits my hand like it was made just for me. This knife has moved up to almost number one for me."

Good knife

"Like most of the knives I've received lately from budk, it was DULL and needed a lot of sharpening. The harness is decent if your a lefty, overall, after some work it is a good knife."

I like the blade, it

"I like the blade, it seems sturdy. However my problem with this product lies in the shoulder strap. Its awkward and is not the one displayed in the picture or on the box. There is no strap that continues under the arm to attach back to the knife, the strap ends with the loop to the other arm. so while still functional, i feel it is not as sturdy as it could be. Also due to the shape of the blade, you can not draw the knife with your right hand as stated from another review, and when you do draw with your left it feels awkward and it comes out backwards where as the blade is pointed towards yourself and the finger grip is in your palm instead of your fingers. I am assuming this is because they assume you are drawing with your right hand not your left, but due to the lefty harness, its backwards. And you cant just switch the sheath to your right side because the blade pulls out left: again the awkward draw. I believe the sheath design and knife are just not compatible, no matter which way you place it, the design of the knife makes any draw an awkward and backwards one. An easier draw for this blade would be a cross draw at the waist like a sword, or a draw at the outer thigh like a pistol holster. But then you loose the concealment factor, guess its just not the right type of knife to do a shoulder harness."

I've used an original one

"I've used an original one of these in a self defense fight once it's sliced through the guys flesh like water, no clue how one from this site would handle though. So I'll give it a 4 for now."

Great knife

"I love the knife it is great, simply quick stone and its really sharp, BUT shoulder harness is completely horrible the elastic is junk no matter how you try to wear the part goes behind neck and rubs it raw. I tried to wear it on my belt, normally a 2" belt, it will not fit, i tried a 1" belt it would not fit the openings on the plastic too small . thin. I took case to store none of th mens belt would fit in. BUD K you need to do something about this, now it just sits in a drawer"

Mitchell L. (4/5)

Better than Expected

"First off, I am extremely impressed with the cutting quality of this knife. To date, I have not been disappointed with the quality of United Cutlery's "Honshu" line of products. My only complaint is that it too large to effectively conceal as a backup weapon and therefor has little daily use. However it is still a really fun knife that's worth more than you pay for it."
