United Cutlery Tailwind Assisted-Opening Stiletto Review
Date Published: 2012-09-13
Assisted-opening mechanisms have been extremely popular in pocket knives in recent years. Because of the legality involved in carrying a switchblade knife, many knife companies have opted for creating assisted-opening versions of once popular automatic knives. Now, a large number of companies are having success with entirely new assisted-opening knives. One of those such companies is United Cutlery with its patented Tailwind assisted-opening mechanism. Their slogan, “The most trusted name in rapid blade release technology,” stands true. We’ve found it to be the fastest among production assisted-opening knives, and this Tailwind Urban Tactical Stiletto is no different.
This stiletto pocket knife would not only be a great self-defense knife, but is also a great Everyday Carry (EDC). The 2 1/2" 440 stainless steel blade is razor-sharp and coated with a black oxide coating to resist corrosion and reduce glare. The compact profile of this stiletto fits undetected in a pocket or pack and offers a sturdy stainless steel clip to hold it in place. But what we were really impressed with about this pocket knife was the rapid speed of the Tailwind assisted-opening mechanism. The mechanism is activated by pressing the blade spur on the back of the blade and it opens at a speed faster than some of the more popular automatics! Which of course you’d have to have a Military or Law Enforcement ID to purchase, but not for this stiletto.
If you’re looking for a great EDC knife that is also good for self-defense, the intimidating stiletto style blade will be enough to scare off even the meanest thugs. The United Cutlery Tailwind Assisted-Opening Urban Tactical stiletto is the knife for you.
