This is my first real katana. When I first got the sword I was pretty upset. The blade had an "S" bend and a twist in the blade. I give the sword a 2 star, but trueswords 5 stars. I called and they payed for the shipping back and sent me a replacement. The replacement I would give 4 stars. The blade was great but it the handle was a bit off. The blade comes out 8f the hilt at the wrong angle. Recap: first sword bad 2 stars. True swords great 5 stars. Second sword good 4 stars

Well, lets get this started. I'll try to make it short and right to the point.
I'm making this review a couple of months after the purchase of this product, this is to let the novelty of getting a new sword wear off and give it a proper opinion.

The fittings are iron, which makes the sword very sturdy. Not something you see often in this price range. The full tang also adds for more support and is something that is needed in a katana for it to be safe to swing around.

It is real Ray Skin but it's not "Wrapped" around the handle, it is more of "Paneled". Something you should expect on most swords unless you're paying top dollar.

My blade fit into the Saya (Scabbard) perfectly. I shook the sword around and not a sound. I think this is mostly due to the fact that the Koiguchi (Scabbard mouth) was hanging onto the Habaki (Blade Collar) like a fat kid hangs on to a lollipop. It took me a couple of attempts just to get the sword out which unless you're practicing drawing techniques it's a good thing since after a couple of draws the Koiguchi tends to widen. So the tighter the better.

Now on to the only disappointing thing on this sword. The blade itself. I'm not going to say you shouldn't buy this sword, if anything I say go for it. I think I just got very unlucky with it. The first thing I noticed was that there wasn't a Hamon. No, not that there wasn't one. More like it was not done correctly. I thought it was just because the blade needed to be cleaned but no matter how much I cleaned it, it didn't come out. I realized that the Hamon was on the edge. As in half of it didn't exist and the other half was on the actual edge. Which isn't right and just looks ugly. Not only that but the edge itself would then be soft and unusable.

In conclusion. It's a great sword. Sturdy, great grip that actually follows the shape of the blade itself and the Bo-Hi (Blood groove) makes it so that you can hear if you had a good swing of it, great for form practice.

If you buy it just make sure to check the blade and see if it was done correctly. I definitely think I got unlucky and I'm sure that if you get a bad blade the awesome folks at True Swords will work it out with you.
