• Are black powders revolvers considered a firearm?
  According to the U.S. government, black powder pistols or revolvers are considered an antique firearm. Thus, possessing any type of pistol using black powder or muzzleloading technology is not considered possessing a firearm. However, each state has its own interpretation of a firearm and some consider black powder pistols as “weapons” which cannot be owned by a felon.
• Is it possible to convert a black powder pistol into an actual gun which uses bullets?
  Yes, it is possible. There are many companies that offer exchangeable cylinders and barrels that convert black powder guns into what the Gun Control Act considered a “real gun.” However, we do not sell any of these conversion kits at this time.
• Can a felon own a black powder pistol?
  Yes, and no. The U.S. government does not consider a black powder revolver a firearm. However, many states also prohibit felons from owning “weapons.” It would be important to check local and state laws before purchasing a black powder pistol if you are a felon.
• Are black powder revolvers good for self defense?
  Of course. Black powder guns were used by the armed forces until the commonality of metallic cartridge ammo around the 1860s and 1870s. The preferred defense calibers would be .44 caliber and larger although some smaller calibers are used in concealable Derringer type pistols.
