Product Description
A sword of elegance and simplicity! Shirasaya (Japanese for "white scabbard") describes a katana without a guard or traditional handle wrappings. This design was used when the sword would not be wielded for some time and allowed for storage without fear of corrosive damage to the blade from the usual lacquered scabbard. Our shirasaya katana provides a sword that is minimalist in theme but still a striking example of Japanese sword craft.
I'm happy with the sword. The blade fits into the scabbard very tightly and the finish on the handle and scabbard is nice. I took a few hours after cleaning off the blade sharpening it and it's pretty sharp right now. I don't know how far the tang goes back into the handle but I wouldn't trust it in a life or death situation. It fits into my umbrella stand very nicely though.

For 13$
The wood has a darker orange that laminates in the light like some nice furniture, I was expecting a much cheaper wood tone, very pleased. The habaki sais budk with the logo but doesnt fit the blade which is glued going in at an angle which gives it a look as if the original blade was taken out and replaced with the thin. For the price I couldn't have asked for more. There is much wax inside saya like mentioned in previous comments. Even my dad was impressed and thought the sword was worth way more.

Awesome
For $20 I was expecting a toy. This is a weapon. The picture makes it look yellow, but it's a light brown, real wood color. The Asian writing is printed on the wood, not stamped into it, so you can sand it off easily if you want. It needs to be sharpened and there's a lot of wax inside the scabbard that leave chunks on the blade, but that will die down over time. I highly recommend it!

much better
This replacement is a much more suitable wall hanger, as it is not chipped up, and splitting. This is one I could show to friends as a fine example of BudK's low priced, handcrafted, carbon blades. Although the blade's lack of razor sharpness was at first a turn off, I've decided to keep it that way. The tip is sharp, & mean. Looks great amid tribal, zen, or other naturalistic room decor. A great blend of simplistic beauty & semi-functionality. Probably one of the best $20 katanas you can buy.

It got to my house before I was even awake. I love the fast shipping... The sword itself is nice and light. I love how it looks it unsheathes nicely and fits into the sheath nice and does not fall out. The blade is nice and not wobbly kinda sharp but I didn't buy it for use. All in I love the sword and I am glad I got it. This is the second sword I bought from this site will buy from here again.

This sword is for looks only unless you only plan on cutting cardbored and paper type material. It is not a Musashi sword and is not full tang.It is only half tang, but a good buy for $20 all around. It can be sharper if you want it to be but I have this sword only for looks,is what it is meant for.You can also use it to practice swing to get you're wrist in good shape for a better and more heavy real Katana.

Recently recieved this Shirisaya, and frankly im 50-50 on it.
$20 gets you what $20 gets you.

I loved the hardwood scabbard and handle, the grain matches up evenly with a lacquered feel even though it isnt. engravings are basically inked on but it accents the peice nicely. The two pieces fits loosely, causing the blade to slide out when turned upside down.Cheap copper peices holds the blade together with the handle and is loose as well, but it clicks when sheathed making it sound authentic. Blade came with a mess of gel on it, with noticable wire brushed hamon as well as scratchs on the blade, as well as small spots of rust and discoloration*that isnt very noticable* spanning the blade that hints of prolonged storage. Came dulled, with what looks like a 1/32 inch edge, can definitly use a good sharpening.

The sword itself is quite hefty, coming in at 4.6 pounds with the scabbard and 3.9 without. 1/8 inch of steel backing as well as a sharp tip. Handcrafted in China. 420 grade stainless steel. and im guessing at half-tang with two rivets high up in the handle.

blade can be easily fixed under these conditions with some mild soap and water to clean off the gel, dried thoroughly, then cleaned with NevR Dull and polished to a high lustre with a double layered polishing cloth. top it off with a few drops of CLP *type of protectant against rust, corrosion, friction as well as dust and dirt. specially formutated for moving metal parts*

the dried u pgel in the scabbard was clear with filling the sinsides with hot water to liquify the gell and let it rinse out and dry out for a day, thensprayed it down inside and out with wood protectant, Renolds or what ever your prefer to waterproof the insides and waited for it to dry.

All in all the discrepencies can be fixed and the sword is worth the price, love the wood. 3/5
